“Perfect location, nicely executed”
Reviewed May 11, 2013

Half a block from Times Square and the GMA studio, with virtually every Broadway theater within walking distance. We did a marathon of a different show every night, and this hotel was a perfect base. The staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel well maintained. Only complaints were a cracked sink and a dark airshaft view, but we were really only in it to sleep. The "executive" room was roomy, clean and comfortable,. Bistro next door is haughty and rude, but there are plenty of others very close.

Room Tip: Ask for room with a view if that's important to you; it wasn't to us.

We stayed in NY five days. The hotel is below average due to very small rooms with ugly carpet and it could be more clean. The fitness room is not recommended at all. But the location is perfect, just at the time square and close to the subway even so it is very easy to reach central park be walk. The reception area looks more like a night club which means also the concierge shows more his protection ability than good restaurant recommendations. Check that you might get a room on higher levels, because we just had a view to a dark inner courtyard.

The hotel is ok if you just look for an overnight possibility.

Room Tip: Higher level

Just back from a 5 night stay and this is a great hotel in the ideal location for getting around in New York. Fifty yards off Time Square and with some really good restaurants on the same street locations don't come much better than this. Comments about room sizes are fair, but this is no different to most hotels in big cities in my experience. We opted for a deluxe room which did have more space than the standard double. Furniture was modern and all in really god condition, bathroom the same. The bed was huge, very high and incredibly comfortable - slept likes log every night we were there.
Room cleanliness was spot on on arrival and maintained so each day. Staff were really good for directions and travel advice when required, found them friendly at all times.

Room Tip: De luxe room was worth it for the additional space

Hotel is perfectly located, rooms are small but well equipped. The Long Bar and Salu restaurant, either side of Hotel are both very good also. Where the Hotel came into its own is what happened when something went wrong. Our room had not been cleaned when we arrived, so we were immediately upgraded to a suite. The staff were brilliant, and a special thanks to Danny for looking after us so well.

Room Tip: Probably best to select a room on a lower floor, as from about 14 upwards you get a lot of noise fro...

We stayed at the Hotel Mela for two nights in July 2012, in a Superior room with queen bed.
The last time we were in NY we stayed at a historic hotel, we chose to go for a more modern place this time. And in terms of service, location and decor, we have nothing bad to say! The property is just a few minutes from Grand Central Station as well as Times Square. Everyone working there are helpful and smiling at all times, and the decor, both in the lobby, hallways and rooms are up-to-date.

BUT, I know one should expect small rooms in NY, especially on Manhatten, but we never imagined they could get this small.... We had about 50 cm around our bed, and had to place our luggage there, and climb over it to get to the bathroom. Even the bellboy scartched his head when he arrived with our four bags, he didn't know where to place them without using the bed.... I think our room should've been categorized as a closet, not a superior room. That title was at best misleading.

Also, if you remove something from the refridgerator, you're automatically charged. That means you don't get to use the fridge for food or drinks you bring yourself either...

The hotel offers parking, and since it is limited it is also expensive.
If we were to come back to NY we would def concider this hotel, but not the same category room, the room we had was only sufficient if all we carried was our handbags, not for one or more suitcases/bags... We would therefore go for the Executive category or bigger.

Room Tip: Rooms are incredibly small in the lower categories, with no space for luggage, go for the executive...

Stayed 2nights here. Average boutique type hotel...small yet clean. Customer service could be better. Concierge did a good job though. Location close to just about all things. We were able to walk everywhere.

We stayed here for 6 nights in April for a city break combined with business for my husband. The location is fantastic and the journey from the airport on the air train / mta was straight forward.

Check in was quick and easy and our room seemed fine when we opened the door - that was until the fan outside the window kicked in! It was so noisy and my husband went straight downstairs to ask if we could move. We had actually been upgraded from the standard room we had booked, but the reception were very accomodating. There was nothing available for that night, but we were assured we could move the following day. We were very tired after a long journey so managed to sleep ok and when I woke in the night the noise seemed to have stopped.

The following day we were moved as promised to a much nicer room - far bigger, very quiet and with the added bonus of a bath, albeit a very small one. This was another upgrade so I can only recommend that if you book this hotel you go for the most expensive room you can afford. When speaking to business partners my husband discovered this is very much the general consensus on the hotel - rooms are hit and miss and can be noisy.

The reception staff were sometimes a bit slow to see to guests - a quick "I'll be with you in a moment" wouldn't have gone amiss.

The free wifi was great, the maid service was good and the beds very comfortable. If you are going for a city break you could do a lot worse than staying here, but if you want quiet and spacious rooms then you'll have to pay for them.
