“Good winter bargain rate at the Hotel Mela”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

We had an extremely pleasant experience last week while staying for four days at the Hotel Mela in NYC. When we checked in, Joel had already assigned us to an upgraded room and it was ready when we arrived at 11:00 a.m. The room turned out to be very spacious by NYC standards and we were delighted. During our stay, we were also given a full complementary breakfast each day next door at the Bistro and it couldn't have been more delicious, along with a very friendly staff. Our room was very clean, nicely decorated and the housekeeping staff was superb. With our very comfortable accommodations, we were able to navigate with ease our four days in the city under sometimes blizzard and somewhat challenging weather conditions. We're always happy to return to the comfort and pleasant surroundings of the Hotel Mela.

Room Tip: Check for upgrades.

This was our third stay at the Mela inside of two years. We were there for a Valentine's Day weekend getaway and as usual were just unbelievably impressed with the staff especially Ronald and the manager Nick. The rooms are always impeccable, the beds comfortable just everything you could want at a wonderful price point and location( just off 6th Avenue and close but not in the hustle and bustle of Times Square). Congrats to the staff for keeping up with the high standards we have grown to expect from the Mela!

Stayed in this hotel for one night on February 11. The value is good for the location but SUPER TINY TINY Room. I shared the room with my husband and we had two luggage given we were going to Mexico for a few days and we could only open one luggage at a time unless the luggage were on the bed. The rooms are clean and the location IF you are a tourist is the best. However if you've been to NYC a few times, you probably don't want to stay in the heart of Times Square. For us it was convenient, clean and it had friendly staff. So in that sense it was a great stay.

Good, small boutique hotel in an excellent location. Rooms are very clean and staff members friendly and helpful. Our room was quite small but nicely decorated. We enjoyed our stay and I would recommend staying in this hotel.

I went to New York in Jan for my 21st with my boyfriend, Hotel Mela is a really sweet hotel, really clean and fantastic service from the staff situated in Times Square- just a 30 second walk away from it so you miss all the noise! Perfect location for day time activities- deffinately reccomend a horse ride in Central Park but avoid people trying to sell you tickets on the street for everything out there because they double the price!! also have a go at ice skating there its fantastic! Empire State building needs to be done in the evening aswell! If you're looking for good night life there are no bars around Times square, need to go to the meat packaging area where the locals go out too, there generally scattered about. Also makesure you use the subway and save loads of money getting about! and finaly for all you shopaholics you must go to Woodbury- AMAZING

My spouse and I wanted to get away for Valentine's Day, and we decided to select this site based on traveler reviews. Our first assigned room was very small, literally three steps from the door to the foot of the bed! The only window faced the side of the neighboring building. No desk or chair could fit, and I felt closed in. Thank goodness they relocated us to another room that had a slightly larger room, though had a smaller bed (full from queen). The view faced the street, though it was too high to see the street activity. Take it seriously when they say don't touch anything on the mini-bar, the magnetic sensor will cause you to be charged for any item. Otherwise it was a pleasant stay, though for the price I'd rather spent the money on a high-end romantic evening at home.

Room Tip: You should probably request a street view room, although you won't be able to see the street act...

Service impeccable, staff always willing to help, and friendly.
Lower priced Rooms are relatively small but this is as expected at this location, one block from Times Square. Better rooms are quite spacious. We stayed at both types of rooms in Feb 2013 and would stay here again any future trips to New York.
