“Hilton, Avenue of the Americas - good location, adequate accommodation”
Reviewed July 7, 2010

Had a room for 4 nights at Hilton, 1335 Avenue of the Americas, New York. Its a huge hotel with adequate accomodation. Its decor is dated but clean and good shower. Check in and check out was easy. Starbucks in the reception area. The best thing about this hotel is its location. Near Central Park south, near a subway, short walk to Rockerfeller Centre and Times Square, Madison Avenue etc and other great attractions. I booked as part of a Virgin Package so can't comment on the rates/value for money. Would go back purely as the location was so good for us. Hopefully next time our neighbours will not be so noisy.

We stayed on a Saturday night o see a Broadway play. We were given a 'deluxe' recently renovated room, which was very spacious and really nice. Extremely comfortable beds. The worst thing for me was that I could hear the people in the next room over who must've come back around 3 or 4 a.m., and they were fairly loud. The lobby was too busy for me - felt like we were in an airport - but the elevators are separated by sections, and I didn't feel that the wait was very long for them. I thought it was tacky that they allowed smoking right outside the door of the hotel - you almost couldn't help walking into cigarette smoke on your way into and out of the main doors. I also thought the staff was a bit cold - the biggest difference between this and the Hampton Inn we stayed at in CT was that the staff in CT looked you in the eye. In NY they barely acknowledged us. I liked that it was on 51st, which wasn't a bad walk to Times Square but far enough where the pedestrian traffic wasn't as bad. All in all, very nice hotel, pricey but in line with other NY hotels.

This was my third stay in the Hilton since 1985, and I would say the best. Seems from reading the reviews that the reason I was so pleased with my stay is because I was in a deluxe room, which means you are on one of the floors that had been recently remodeled. The only slight complaint was the bathrooms, which are not large enough to get in and out of without doing a dance with the door, but the living space in the room is far more than ample. Water pressure was great, tubs are the wider, almost soaking tubs, curtain rod is rounded out making for more space in the shower. Bedding was fabulous, towels were great. Had no problems with noise in the hallway. Housekeeping staff was very friendly and fast, and rooms were spotless. Do be aware that the elevators can be lengthy waits, so just plan for 5-10 minutes to get down to the lobby, worst case. 10 minutes only happened to us once, because one of the three elevators was out of service, and every car that stopped on 29 from above was already full, so we needed to wait for 3 cars to come before we could board. Again, that was an exception, there was a 6000 person convention in the hotel, and it was right before a big kickoff meeting. Once the 3rd elevator was back in service the next day, our waits were minimized. Would highly recommend the 29th floor. There was always a cab waiting for passengers in the queue out the front door, and you're one avenue away from the thrills and fun of walking the amazing shops of 5th avenue. Times Square is about a 10 min walk in the other direction, but trust me, that's a good thing. I much prefer this location to staying in Times Square and walking out of your hotel into a mob scene on the street. :)

We stayed one night - the location of the hotel is really great - near everything and lobby has amazing buzz of people out to have a good time. The thing that lets the hotel down is the attitude of the front line staff - especially concierge and bell hop - the were as unhelpful as it is possible to be. Also a real nasty is having to pay $3.50 for each item of luggage you leave in the luggage room - i've never had to pay for this service anywhere else. Rooms were fine - nice bright and clean. There are definitely better places in ny to stay - try the affinia near maddison square garden.

I could not have picked a more perfect hotel to fit our needs. We were impressed from the moment we were dropped off at the front lobby. The staff greeted us with a smile (amazing and very helpful staff) and quickly checked us in. After the long trip, we were extremely pleased with our room; very comfortable!

The location of the hotel could not have been more convienent, as we were attending several concerts at Radio City Music Hall. We were basically right next door and it was wonderful.

I can't wait to get back to the Big Apple. I already know exactly where I will be staying. :)

I'm a very picky traveler. I dont do quaint and charming and old smelly tiny rooms with their history...seems like lots of NY hotels fit this bill. The Hilton was modern enough but not overly trendy, very clean. Location was fantastic, walk to times square but not in the middle of the lights. Huge hotel, lots of people going in and out, didnt bother me much concierge was available to answer questions, google directions and a cab line right outside, subway few minutes away, Famous Halal cart across the street. Starbucks inside the hotel and lots of other amenities. Bed was very comfortable and my double room with 2 queens was very roomy, quiet and clean, what more can you ask for! Well i would ask it wont be over $300 a night..but this is NY what can u do.

stayed for 4 nights, we had a fabulous stay here. Very cosy and peaceful, in beautiful surroundings - a perfect place if you staying in NY. The food in the restaurant is really nice too and staff were always very very helpful. Make sure you ask about all the facilities though if u're up for a bit of fun, try the central park ride by bicycle. A nice way to see park at your own pace, and some lovely stop offs on the way. Take a picture and soak in the views.
We also took a day trip sight seen . A nice easy going day out, nice place to stay very close to time square in fact just 2 block from times square and few block away from shopping ..,u get good street food just out side the hotel.
