“Survived hurricane Irene in this hotel- fantastic staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2011

Arrived at this hotel for a two night stay in a "deluxe room".

Check in was swift, but was upgraded to executive room. It was small and rather dated, but was able to downgrade my room type to the deluxe room and still keep access to the Executive lounge.

Executive lounge was very different to European versions. Size was the first thing- it was exceedingly large, but with a drawback that it was noisy with lots of families using the lounges, so sitting quietly reading or working was impossible. The lounge does charge for alcoholic drinks, which is very different to European Hiltons.

The deluxe room is tastefully decorated and had a queen sofa bed for extra guests if required. Lavazza coffee maker in room, but with dried creamer instead of half and half.
Bed was exceedingly comfortable with very fancy LCD reading lights.

The shallow American bath has been replaced with a spacious shower cubicle with a monsoon shower head!

During Irene I needed to book a room on a night-for-night basis and the Executive staff at the front desk were exemplary. Special praise should go to Giovanny and Kelly who were exceedingly helpful. They had a lot to put up with checking in evacuees and stranded guests.

I had to change rooms twice during the last part of the stay due to the day-by-day reservation as the airlines reworked schedules. I was offered a corner suite which offered a three window view out to the encroaching hurricane! Very enjoyable to watch as a rookie!

The suite was not as up-to-date as the deluxe room decor but very comfortable too!

I was heartened to see the true Hilton spirit of the staff during the hurricane and cannot praise them enough for their tireless efforts!

Well done staff of Hilton New York, Avenue of the Americas!

Room Tip: deluxe rooms are updated and much more modern than the other hotel rooms in the hotel

Recommend forking up a little more for the Executive level floors - quieter, and you probably save time and money grabbing breakfast and late afternoon snacks in the lounge. However, watch the drink prices! I paid $15 for a mediocre glass of white wine; could have waited and spent that on something better at dinner. Could have been a little cleaner, but was fine.

I stayed at the Hilton this past week for a business trip. Reception was extremely helpful, kind, and briefed me accordingly on the whereabouts of everything in the hotel (it is rather large).

The room was a perfect size with a great large TV. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were plentiful and perfect. The bathroom was cleanily and nicely put together. The room also imcluded coffee and tea, which was nice.

The Marketplace (hotel restaurant) had great food for lunch and dinner. The breakfast is fine, but certainly overpriced so I do not suggest going unless it is included with your stay. The wait staff is very professional, tentaive, and friendly. Also, off of the Marketplace is a Starbucks which i thought was great.

The location is great; right in the center of everything! Times Square is a few blocks away and shopping too.

This hotel was great but out of my price range. i would probably only go back for a business trip.

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Hilton New York! It is located conveniently to all that Midtown and 5th Avenue offer without being in the thick of Times Square. The room was very comfortable. Crisp white linens and dark wood were used to decorate the space. The bathroom was updated with a seamless, glass-doored shower and granite counters. The bathroom could have been a bit more spacious but we are talking about New York. The entire staff from reception to the parking attendents were friendly and helpful. By the end of the week, this hotel felt like a home away from home.

Thank you for staying with us when you visited New York CIty. I am glad to hear that check in was smooth and the room met your needs. I recognize that the baggage fee is not acceptable to you this happens to be a standard practice in New York for storage.

My wife and I have just returned from a weekend in New York City. I managed to get a decent rate on the internet for a queen room at the Hilton. The hotel is very big and nice, it is in Avenue of the Americas, several blocks above Times Square, and the area is much more quiet than 7th Ave. or Broadway. Our prior experience in a Times square hotel had been worse, as the soundproofing was very bad and we could hear traffic noise all night long.
Check in was very smooth and our room was ready when we arrived (12:15 am). The room was on the small side, but it was clean, and had a very comfortable bed and a huge plasma TV. The bathroom was also very clean and very well appointed. Even though we were close to the elevators and "only" in the 12th floor, soundproofing was great and we had a very good night's sleep.
Check out was fast, as it usually is in Hilton properties, but we had to pay for each item left in locker room. Having to pay for items in the locker room reminded me of the days when I stayed in hostels, and I do not think it is a necessary practice for an upscale hotel. All in all, we will chose the Hilton again next time in town.

Location, standard of rooms and general standard of rooms are all great. The executive lounge is a perfect bonus when I can have access. For business it makes the perfect location for both up town and down town.

This is a really nice hotel in a great location. You will not be sorry you stayed here. Quiet, nice rooms. Not all are renovated so make sure you get one of the newer ones. The restaurant and bars are nice, if uninspired. Average food, but you probably won't eat there anyway! The only thing I dislike is that the light switches glow like night lights when they are turned off. If you need dark to sleep and don't want a night light, ths is a problem. Bonus: particularly good attention paid to security. They check everyone who comes into the building at night.

Room Tip: ask for a newly renovated room - not all are

Love that you enjoyed the location it is one of our favorite things to hear from customers. The security team is one of the best in the business. We ensure that the people who are in the hotel are guests of the hotel. Sorry about the night light disturbing your sleep. Guests typically like this feature.
