I decided to give this place another chance after my last dismal experience a few years ago. The Director of Sales had contacted me and had encouraged me to return - I promised her I would one day.

My room on the Executive Level (# 3942) was shockingly bad. The decor was extremely outdated; carpets were stained and there was black hair in the bath and on a pillow. There was no bottled water or cups to make coffee/tea in.

The location may be good but the quality of the rooms does not map to the hotel category.

Great location - close to Rockefeller Centre, Times Square and Central Park. Rooms comfortable and as expected. Expensive WiFi especially after after other hotels n the same chain provided free WiFi. Check in was slow (10 mins) even in the HHonors line. Lobby not particularly welcoming - busy, staff functional but not friendly and overly helpful. We basically used hotel as a overnight base only as other services were uninviting.

Hotel is very good, bit expensive though. Altough got a free upgrade to 40th floor. Hotel is huge but staff is very friendly and they try to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Breakfast at the executive floor (44th) was not good at all, it cannot be considered as a buffet breakfast as I was still hungry after breakfast. Good view and the room is very spacious, and the king size bed is very large and comfortable.

The Good:
The staff, location, bed, room size is excellent. Within easy walking distance of Rockefeller Center, Time Square, Theater District and all the great delis.
The Bad;
The rooms, the decor, the hallways, the room service and cost could all use some work. First the rooms...they are showing some serious signs of age. Sink was cracked, wall paper was peeling, carpet had wear marks. The hallways, chair rail was missing on one part of the floor I was on, the other areas the walls and rails were scratched. Room service...yikes. I was in a rush and needed to have a breakfast at a specific time, so going in I knew it would be costly, but honestly, $50 for their short rib hash and eggs and juice one day and $45 for scrambled eggs and juice the next was severely overpriced, even for NY standards. The hash was overcooked, the potatoes raw and portion sizes tiny... which was amazing for the prices charged. Eggs themselves were good.
Overall...the room was dated, but the bed was comfy. Price..I think if you can get a room for a good price (under $200), it would be worth staying at, but do not depend on eating here nor expecting the Ritz..

Enjoyed a quick city break at the Hilton. Easy check-in, lovely comfortably sized room, great bed, couldn't be quieter on the 19th floor. Always a good location for business and the theater. Planniing our return!
