Description: Kellari Taverna is located in the heart of New York City, three blocks from Grand Central Station, Times Square and the Theater District. The dining room decor evokes a subterranean wine cellar designed with contemporary elegance. Kellari features the traditional Greek taverna specialties, such as grilled whole fish, prime chops and meats, and an eclectic selection of contemporary Hellenic savory appetizers ("mezedes") created by our Corporate Executive Chef, Gregory Zapantis. Our menu also features a variety of Greek cheeses, baked or flamed 'Saganaki' style, as well as a selection of Raw and Marinated seafood. The Kellari dessert menu includes innovative specialties such mastiha pudding and warm sokolata with halva ice cream as as well as traditional favorites such as Baklava and Galaktoboureko. Kellari Taverna offers an extensive international wine list featuring the largest selection of Greek wines available in any U.S. restaurant. About 24 wines are available by-the-glass.

We ate late and sat at the bar, so only wanted appetizers - but apparently we were still pretty hungry, as we ordered 5 and couldn't finish what the 2 of us ordered. We had shrimp, meatballs, spanikopita, greek salad and some melted, flaming cheese. With 2 beers and a glass of sparkling wine, our tab came to $113.
The shrimp were large, but tough and dry - there were 4 on the plate.
The flaming cheese was nice, though salty, but the pita bread they brought to go with it was burned/charred pretty badly.
The spanikopita, meat balls and salad were fine. The salad had a very generous sized slice of feta.
The bartender was pleasantly chatty - he was having some fun with some other patrons down the bar. The space/atmosphere looked nice.
It was fine, but my husband commented that he saw no reason to return with all the restaurants in NYC.

We were here as part of a VERY large group on Easter Sunday, so I think that the service issues we had were because of our 75+ person group. But we will all definitely be back, because the food was excellent, and truthfully the service staff tried their best, and were attentive and helpful.

We were all served the same appetizers: a plate of different spreads, greek salad, octopus, calamari and spinach pies. All were delicious and timely. The service issues started with the drink orders (we all had different wines, soft drinks etc.), and were compounded because we could choose from three entrees: Salmon, Black Cod or Bronzini. The fish entrees were excellent as well, but again, dishes were confused, and brought out haphazardly. The desserts were really good as well, but we could not get Greek coffee (because of our group size supposedly). The american coffee/espresso was good, but took a long time to get.

I really can't wait to go back and try this restaurant again!

4 In our group and we all ordered different items. All of us were quite pleased. The food was all around good to very good. The service was generally good as well. No one in our group walked away disappointed.

Not the best New York dinning experience at the Kellari Taverna. The service was quite disappointing, for example waiter brought the bill before we even asked for it. Food was nice, music was only 80's.

Unplanned stop after a girls-night out on Broadway. Even though it was late, they welcomed us in as we walked through the door and made us feel at home. Ordered a bottle of Greek red wine and a round of appetizers-- grilled octopus, saganaki, veggie chips, and scallops. Everything was fresh, cooked perfectly and plentiful. Very authentic including the sweet charm and good looks of our Greek bartender/server, Michael. I am thrilled to learn there is a Kellari Taverna in Washington, DC so I can satisfy my palate again.
