Hotel Central Fifth Avenue New York

As most travelers know, HI can vary widely since they are privately owned franchises.... My experience has been mostly positive considering the prices are almost always reasonable... in this case, the price was great... $100 cheaper a night than the Hilton I had stayed at... stuck in NYC b/c flight cancelled, I swapped hotels to save a few dollars. Didn't regret it.
Hotel itself is on a small footprint, so don't expect wide open spaces.... Staff friendly and helpful, great recommendations and directions. Nice lounge area doubles as breakfast area 6AM-10AM. Computer area in basement clean and easily allows you to print boarding passes.
My room was small (1 Queen bed), but I was solo no problems. Room was extra clean, bed comfy and no problems. Each floor only has about 6-8 rooms (I said it was a small footprint)... so rooms higher than my 9th fl might have a view... not that It really matters.

Did I mention you get a continental breakfast included? Sure, there are delis everywhere in Manhattan that might have better food, but they want money! Suck it up, have a bagel, and splurge on dinner!!!

Wish I would have stayed here instead of the Hilton at $240 a night...

Decent access to subways (B/D/F/M trains) within 3 blocks. Good bus access.... you really don't want to drive in Manhattan, do you?

Room Tip: Higher floors would have less street noise.

We had a great stay here. Superb location, comfy rooms, lovely & helpful staff. This hotel was great value considering you're in the middle of New York City. You don't need much more than this as you are only in the room to lay your head.

Hotel is very close to times square. The rooms are very comfortable with the space thats available. Housekeeping was great, no issues. Breakfast was free and the cinnabuns never disapoint. Checkin was easy and checkout was a breeze.

Room Tip: request a room not facing 45th, the bars on the street and garbarge trucks are a little loud

Looking for a great place to say with great staff and location? Stay here. We had a great experience from checking in till we left. It is convenient to everything and you won't be disappointed. If we only had one complaint it would just be the elevators but they were manageable. We had a room that wasn't on the street side and we were so happy about that as it was truly quiet.

My family and I were very impressed with the standard of accommodation and value for money this hotel offered. The hotel was very clean and the rooms seemed very quiet which was appreciated after a busy day in New York. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Although the rooms are on the small side this wasn't too much of an issue. The eating area can get busy so it is advisable to have an early breakfast. The breakfast buffet is constantly be replenished by staff. This hotel is centrally located making it easy to get around New York. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family and would not hesitate in staying here again.

Room Tip: We had a higher floor room which seemed very quiet.

This hotel is in a great location. 2 short blocks to Times Square, 5 blocks to Rockefeller Center, close to Grand Central Station also. It is a small hotel with a small lobby. There is a standard HIE free breakfast and there is an area for seating. There are only 6 rooms on each floor and the rooms are very small but very comfortable. We were rarely in our room. Having 5 pieces of luggage was tricky but we made it. Had a slow draining tub but reported it and when we got back, it was fixed.

Situated just a hundred yards off 5th avenue, and just a ten minute walk from Times Square and a slightly longer stroll to the Empire State Building it's a case of location, location, location and value for money with this hotel especially if this is your first visit to NYC.
We stayed as a family of three (Mum, Dad and teenage son) over the Christmas week and found it ideal for our purposes. It's by no means plush but offers a free cooked breakfast daily and fresh coffee on tap 24 hours and basic but always clean and comfortable rooms (two double beds in the case of our family room). Yes you do have to jostle a bit for your breakfast in the too small lobby eating area (especially between 9-10pm) and seating is at a premium during this period but there's always the option to take your food back to your room. It's an all you can eat/grab what you like buffet and there's decent variety and ample stocks that are regularly replenished - with Christmas morning being the one forgivable exception when things were a little depleted by 9am. And lets not forget here that any breakfast included in your nightly tariff, let alone one offering hot food choices, is a rare thing indeed in any NYC hotel and by our calculations it's a perk that saved us several hundred dollars over our week's stay.
Rooms are small by the standards of any other HI Express we've stayed in - as we expected - but in comparative terms are reasonably sized by budget hotel standards for Manhattan where 'compact' is often taken to an extreme. They are a little dated perhaps but are well kept, clean and do have a bang up to date large flat screen TV and fully functional free Wi-Fi.
Clothing storage space was reasonable for the size of room and the bathroom compact but like the rest of the facilities was serviced daily to a high standard with a generous towel allocation.
We were on a high floor (nineteen out of twenty-two), a blessing in terms of isolation form street noise but it did mean an occasional lengthy wait at peak times for one of the two small lifts.
Note there are no room safe's if this is important to you (though you have your valuables secured in a safe in reception) and no fridge as in other HI Expresses we've used but there are plenty of ice machines spread throughout the building meaning that you can always chill your drinks in the ice bucket or sink as we did.
Worthy of a mention is the free left-luggage service that we used on our day of departure which was operated cheerfully and efficiently by the staff.
Staff deserve a big thumbs up for being generally polite and helpful in a city where this is far from always the case with those working in the service industry!
Overall then a big thumbs up. It's not plush or stylish but it offers a cheap, cheerful and comfortable place to rest your head at the end of a hard day's sightseeing in this noisy, dirty, bustling but vibrant and captivating city that never sleeps. Enjoy!

Room Tip: Choose a high floor to escape street noise but be aware this may mean a slightly lengthy wait for on...
