Gramercy Park Hotel
Ranked #95 of 473 Hotels in New York City

We spent the weekend in NYC, and wanted to stay somewhere with character. I must admit, this hotel has character and is very nice. Our room was nice, but was much smaller than the pictures represented (as with almost every other hotel I have come across). The service was very good, but if Woody Allen and his wife show up to go to a restaraunt in the hotel right when the doorman is supposed to hail a cab for you...you might as well accept being chopped liver at that point and be prepared to get your own cab. This is first hand experience....there is a pecking order here.

The Private Roof Club was great...nice atmosphere and good service.
Maialino is horrible...the absolute worst service ever. We were about ready to walk out of there it was soo bad. I still cannot get over why paying customers and hotel guests could be treated so poorly. Unreal.
The bars are great...with good bartending. We had a great time just conversating and people watching. The drink (forgot what it is called, and also forgot to pay the tab, and also forgot how we got back to the room) with absynthe in it was great from what I remember :)

Despite some setbacks, nice place to stay...but I dont think worth the $$. I am on the fence on this one...but would recommend to others if they are willing to turn a blind eye to some drawbacks in order to experience the scene that this hotel offers.

The hotel is in an excellent location. It is a slightly quieter area but we were able to walk to most places from our hotel. The rooms were quite big for NYC with adequate bathrooms. They are quirkily decorated in deep colours which I loved. The bars are excellent - can recommend the mojitos and the cosmopolitans. The upstairs roof top bar is pretty. The downstairs bars are a bit more hip. The service was excellent. The gym is adequate. We didn't eat here so can't say whether that is good although the restaurant looked good. Very comfortable beds

This hotel needs to get it right. They are making several stupid mistakes that could be easily corrected. It is a beautiful property but the service sucks. There is way too much competition in NYC, if you are charging the kind of prices they are and are listed as a 5 star hotel you better get it right. DO NOT get room service. It is terrible and wildly expensive. There is a wonderful little restaurant downstairs, Maialino. Prices are reasonable and the food is excellent. You have to ask for turn down and complimentary water. Water in the mini bar is $7 and I don't get this whole charge for the internet that all the hotels are doing. I think it is just price gauging. Most hotels will remove it if you ask. Honestly with all the choices in NYC, I would not stay here again.

We stayed here over Christmas and New Year 2010/2011. This hotel is beautiful. The rooms are lush (if you are able to get a room that is not in-facing that is). The staff were great and nothing was too big or too small. We didnt find any attitude or snottiness from any staff member - it was all great! Don't miss out on the restaurant downstairs - especially for brunch!

Overall, the accommodations, the location, the staff, the service and now especially with the addition of Maialino, GPH offers an incredibly effortless, yet sophisticated, almost curated New York experience...near perfection for someone like myself, an ex-New Yorker who returns often and wants the best New York has to offer...and GPH offers a culturally/intellectually nuanced experience presented with a personal depth and the comforts of home.

This lovely old hotel in an excellent neighborhood for walking, shopping and eating. But sadly it has been cheaply remodeled . Like all Shrager Hotels, dim lighting and dark colors substitutes for quality construction standards and falls way way short on service standards. While the afternoon doorman (the only doorman in sight) was helpful hailing cabs, there seemed to be no one to ever help with bags. All the poor travelers I saw struggling down the dark halls with bags was really sad. Nor were there enough people at the check in desk. The elevators are paneled with plastic wood and the lighting in the elevators is so dim, one can't see the buttons or the little slot to insert one's card key. We ordered a cocktail at 10 pm and it took 40 minutes to arrive and the $19 cocktail ended uo costing $37 because of the room service "delivery charge" on top of a service charge and tax! The carpets in the rooms need to either be replaced or seriously shampooed, and the HVAC was noisy and unpredictable. The good points: a LOVELY lobby with the trendier bars in closed rooms off the lobby. That allowed the main space to remain in this large ceilinged room a sense of funky homeyness and an open fire. The sky garden lounge on the top floor for guests only was a sunny haven during the day for work or reading, and the beds were comfortable with great shampoo and soaps in the bathroom. We stay here because it is close to my husband's office and because we grew up at 1 Lexington Avenue, so it feels like home. But truly, this would be a much improved experience with better staff training and some serious money put into maintenance. The dark color scheme is actually lovely, but the spaces need to be lit properly. While the hotel works for us, for $500 a night, there are cleaner, trendier, better located hotels in this town with crisper service, so I am not sure I would recommend this hotel to friends.
