“Oasis in Manhattan”
Reviewed October 28, 2011

My stay turned a business trip into a vacation. Decor is a delighty - original art, great Moroccan theme. Service is impeccable. Comfort, amenities, music and public spaces are superb. Location is convenient for great walks, shopping, and public transport. Well-equipped small gymnasium has floor-to-ceiling window views of Gramercy Park. Hip and fun place to stay.
Worth the price.

We stayed one night here after three nights at The James, Soho. It was a breath of fresh air after staying in a minimalist hotel with a laidback vibe - both in terms of excellent customer service and also a beautiful plush interior. The design is well thought out, original and filled with art pieces from the likes of Warhol and Damien Hirst. The hotel has its own type of candle and there is a sensuous alluring smell to this hotel. Having a drink at the Rose bar, you will be blown away by the beauty, elegance and style of the hotel, not to mention the superbly mixed cocktails. The roof terrace offers a country club type atmosphere, which, although it does not boast spectacular views, is a classy place. One minor criticism is the breakfast does not totally live up to expectations (I had an American style and the ingredients did not taste totally fresh). However, I understand brunch at their signature restaurant is supposed to be excellent. Service is fast and efficient and friendly - no complaints there.

The locale of the hotel is an oasis from the bustle of uptown Manhattan and indeed the hotel offers access to the beautiful park. I especially enjoyed reading about the history of the park and New York as some excellent books were provided in my suite. In fact, I was hooked - reading these books at every opportunity in my beautifully appointed suite. It is not often when one's hotel room resembles a piece of art.

Be prepared to be stunned if you book this hotel. (To provide some context to this review, I have also stayed at The Library hotel and Mandarin Oriental in NYC which are both excellent hotels too) Another plus point is the hotel's proximity to the buzzing nightlife of East Village. Congratulations to all the staff for maintaining the high levels of service that makes this hotel such a success. I will certainly be staying here again should I return to New York.

MY wife and I wanted to get away for one night to celebrate my birthday and the GPH was a great choice. We went on the AMEX Platinum fine hotels and resorts program and we given an upgrade on our room upon check in. The room as more spacious then we expected and very nicely furnished. It has a great minibar just in case you needed anything. When we arrived back to our room after dinner a delicious chocolate cake was on the table with Happy Birthday written on it. The staff really goes out of there way to please you. The hotel is in a great location because the immediate area is very tranquil and beautiful and yet you are just a block or so away from all the trendy stores and restuarants. We had lunch at the rooftop restuarant at the hotel and the service and food was excellent. I would definitely recomend this hotel.

Fantastic location. Fantastic service. Beautiful building and GREAT room! Great design! But a nice boutique feeling...nothing feels assembly line here... and that Concierge service alone is worth the price of admission...simply loved it!

Room Tip: Probably the higher the level the less you hear the bar noise...

I love everything about this hotel .... Ambience, the decor, the lil rooftop members only bar ....everything is great, except for the rooms. The rooms while quite pricey is small, bathrooms r not great, the hallway is very rickety ....

But ... What the hell, the hotel is such an amazing lil art museum on its own ..

We absolutely loved this hotel and would stay again. We stayed for a weekend in October which is high season in NYC. We shared with them that it was our anniversary and they very thoughtfully had a bottle of champagne waiting when we arrived. The public and private areas are beautiful -stylish with great art, furniture and furnishings. The designers kept what was good from the original building and augmented it with unique touches everywhere. We loved our room which was a Luxury Loft. The restaurant had great food, a good vibe and excellent service. Whoever is running this place is a real pro because the entire staff was on their game -helpful but not fawning. They could not have been more pleasant or responsive. The hotel communicated well via email both before and after our stay. The neighborhood is fantastic, with so many great restaurants nearby. The location allowed us to get anywhere in Manhattan easily. Staying here was a real pleasure. Highly recommend this.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side have views of Gramercy Park.
