“Crazy but very Efficient”
Reviewed July 9, 2014

Be prepared and enjoy. Train Travel from here is great. Busy but what else would you expect. Know the layout and the schedule before you go. Recon if you can.

“Very Busy May 2014”
Reviewed July 4, 2014

Over the past few years I have visited every major railroad station is the US. As railroad stations go there is nothing remarkable about Penn Station New York. It is a very busy place with lots of little shops, eating places/bars, and even a K Mart. Most people go there only to board a train on the old and narrow train platforms.

“NOT THE RITZ BUT IT IS EASY TO GET IN AND OUT AND THE BIG BOARD WORKS FINE”
Reviewed July 3, 2014

Lots of reviews about this place stress the problems and appearance. I say look at the efficiency which is quite good. You go there not to sleep or brush your teeth but to get on a train. I have taken the train from Penn at least 100 times. Rarely do they err. It is a great institution and we are lucky to have something that is so relatively easy to access!

“A very busy transport hub”
Reviewed June 29, 2014

Penn Station is huge.
It has a number of subway lines running through it, and so has all the people that subways generate.
It has the Long Island Line as well. We didn't use that.
It is also the Amtrak destination in NYC. We found the Ticket Counter Staff at Amtrak to be very responsive and helpful to couple of Australians. Sadly, we found the Information Desk for Penn Station to the exact opposite. Uninterested and unresponsive.
A tip about Penn Station - they have long term baggage storage, which we found really useful after our hotel refused to store luggage for us.
The whole place was clean and efficient, with appropriate signage.

“Magical Mystery Tour”
Reviewed June 28, 2014

The title refers to the view out the window of my train from the Newark Penn Station as we pulled into the New york Pennsylvania Station. The images, misty shrouded towering ancient black metal
structures several stories high but all beneath some greater unseen black canopy, in the dark, but still visible, were truly evocative, perhaps out of something underground, like in "Gangs of New York", but even more so. Wow. As for the station inside, it was very pleasant, with lots of retailers, and pretty well signed as far as I could tell. I just wanted to go back out and explore the place where the trains come in......
