Although I read different reviews about City Sightseeing NY Cruises, we had a great experience.
We closed our round trip USA in summer 2012, with a visit to NYC, where we spend 4 days. One of the things we really liked was the 90 minutes sightseeing cruise over the Hudson River and East River. We found City Sightseeing NY Cruises on internet, but we bought our tickets at their counter at Pier 78, located on 12th Avenue at 38th Street, which is Midtown West. We waited for half an hour in the building before we went to the outside line, where we had to wait for about 20 minutes. Then a commercial photo was made and we were allowed to get onboard. After 15 minutes we set sail on the Hudson River heading Lower Manhattan. The weather was good, so everybody took a seat outside. The view on the Manhattan skyline was great. Our guide Tony was phenomenal. He knows every detail of Manhattan and he told all the interesting facts in a most entertaining way. He told us about NYC architecture in general, about the Empire State building, WTC and what happened during 9/11. He also mentioned the role of one of their boats during the rescue of the passengers of the airplane which landed in the Hudson River. We sailed around Lower Manhattan with a great view on the Financial District and went up the East River. We then went underneath the Brooklyn Bridge, magnificent! We sailed all the way up to the UN building, passing the Chrysler Building and the Williamsburg Bridge. We then turned around and on our way back we came really close to Liberty Island and Ellis Island. We were able to take great pictures of the Statue of Liberty. We knew we would not dock at Liberty Island, that is an other tour. Tony told us interesting stories about how the first immigrants were obliged to register on Ellis Island and that you can still find information about your ancestors in the library and the museum. We sailed back over the Hudson River and finally docked at Pier 78. We liked the commercial family photo so we bought it, but you are not obliged to. This was an awesome Manhattan sightseeing.

We got this cruise as part of our hop-on-hop-off bus tour ticket with City Sights. The bus tour was awful, see separate review, but this was fantastic.

No trouble getting on the boat as we opted for the early sailing at 1000, which proved to be an excellent decision given the queues for the 1200!

The guide for the trip was Tony and he was brilliant. He was funny, engaging and hugely informative. Regaling tales of NYC which had us entertained for the whole trip.

I would definitely recommend take this tour and would have paid separately for the privilege.

Quite upset with this "tour"
Arrived 30 minutes before the 12 o'clock tour waited in line outside in the freezing cold, when they opened the door to let us in there was a further line, waited again inside while people pushed in front of us then as we got to the front of the line they told us the boat was full and we would have to wait in line for two hours for the next one.. We just left but some people sat down to wait in the small cafe area only to be yelled at by an attendant that sitting down did not count as standing in line and they would have to stand up.
Seriously? Did they expect people to just stand there for another two hours?
Unprofessional staff and a set up aimed at getting your cash without informing you of the very real chance that you may not actually get what you paid for.
Very poor reflection on the city of NY for visitors.

It snowed twice while we were up in NYC and we cruised on the one of them. We used our NY Pass( the only way to go) checked in and then boarded shortly after. This is where we met the tour host, Danny.Great guy, he informed us about the water line buildings and told stories about his life experiences while we rode into the ever increasing snow flurries. We could barely could see NJ from the NY side but oh well. We went out to Lady Liberty and got a great view of her. He also told us the lights on the Empire State building change colors and if you see red that means someone was just married up there. Also he told us about the crash landing of the airliner into the Hudson a few years ago. This happened in the water right in front of the ferry and cruise boat piers which went out to save the passengers. Danny was a great asset on the trip and would do it again without the snow.

Fantastic boat cruise, guide was amazing, he knew so much about the city and could answer any questions that were thrown at him. The views were a must see of the city and the photos are amazing.
