What a unique place to hear beautiful music. You can look out at the New York skyline and sometimes even feel the slight movement of the barge. The musicians are top notch. A wonderful way to spend the afternoon.

I fell in love with this place! It is romantic, beautiful, unique. The music selection is great, the view is splendid! It is the best place to take your other half and propose!

if you're looking for a great combination evening out this is for you. The saturday night concerts are very reasonable for an evening out in NYC. The audience is a nice mix--there were young couples, singles and the more typical "mature" chamber music followers. Brooklyn Heights is easy to get to, using one of the multiple subways or the water taxi. You could easily eat in the neighborhood before the concert, or grab dessert at Brooklyn Ice Cream on the water front next to the barge.
If you're coming by subway from Manhattan, follow signs to the water taxi. The Bargemusic signs is visible from a few blocks away. With about 120 seats in the venue there is no check-in hassle. The acoustics are good and there is a large picture window behind the music ensemble with a view of the lower Manhattan skyline, particularly nice as the evening lights come on.
The web site is easy to navigate, and the fees for buying online are quite modest. Be sure to utilize the pick your own seat option. One warning: as you are on a barge there is a little swaying with the waves. Before or after stroll the water front. If it's dark out, you have a terrific view of the Statue of Liberty.

If you like live chamber music, this is a wonderful and approachable experience. It is an under appreciated experience with the younger set. But it would be an excellent addition to any trip to NYC and Brooklyn.

I and my wife (who is a composer) thoroughly enjoyed a concert of new music for cello and piano, including George Crumb and Alfred Schnittke. This was part of the Here and Now Series, which is one of many series, which includes music from every era. The space, about 100 seats, which is perfect for chamber music.
