Description: Opulent and grand, The Russian Tea Room in New York offers elegant fine dining in sophisticated surroundings. Superb continental cuisine with Russian fare is the key focus at the exquisite Russian Tea Room. The elegant interior features bold red leather banquettes and Art Deco design. Full of character, Russian Tea Room has been a cultural hub in New York for over 80 years, after the members of the Russian Imperial Ballet founded the restaurant in 1927. Full of delicious classics, the menu includes signature dishes like beef stroganoff, poached lobster salad or chicken kiev with caramelized wild rice. High Tea at The Russian Tea Room includes sandwiches and blinis along with cupcakes, seasonal scones and petits fours. A fine selection of loose leaf teas will complement the high tea, with the optional accompaniment of champagne. Close to New York's Carnegie Hall, the vibrant tradition of the Russian Tea Room legacy is still alive to this day.

I've heard of the glam associated with the RTR and wanted to experience it on my first holiday to NYC. I had to experience afternoon tea with the bubbly! The decor was stunning but there were only three other customers in the restaurant. What a waste of ambience. It was somewhat good, but could have been great. Still, wishlist....check.

We have a timeshare just down the street from the Russian Tea Room but have never eaten there. This trip we are in NYC for a week and decided to finally have a meal there. We can now say we have been there nd I doubt we will go back.
The food was good but not fantastic, the drinks were okay, the desert was good but again not fantastic - especially for $18 for a single desert. The service was also good but not great.
Bottom line, this restaurant is very overpriced and there is nothing you can't get at another restaurant - probably at a much lower price.

Boy, things have changed in 30 plus years. It once WAS a bustling restaurant. Sadly, no more. We ate here for lunch and was shocked by the taste of the food (Beef stroganoff was fatty) let alone the price. Definitely not worth it...we would have been better off with a slice of pizza!

This was my first visit to this iconic restaurant in New York city and it was everything and more. First the place is very reagle, very over the the top, but what you would come to expect from old school glam. Definitely brings you back in time, I loved it! The wait staff was very professional, super courteous, helpful and friendly. The menu is very Russian with all the staples but also has a good assortment of American dishes dazed up. They had a pre-theater menu out so I don't know if later prices differ but they were reasonable . We were there for a concert at Carnegie hall which is right next door which was also convenient. I ordered the Kobe steak taster entire which came with a nice piece of Kobe steak, a piece of American grain fed beef as well as mashed potatos, mushrooms and onions it was fantastic! Nice portion, top off with drinks and coffee I was very happy with my meal. It was a treat to visit
New York the way it was, just Iconic.

The Russian Tea Room has always been a landmark restaurant in NYC. It is a lovely spot, quiet and harkening to a bygone day. We had the $60 pre-theater menu. Restaurant was empty and waiters chatted at the bar. Everything screams desperation. Rolls were stale, food needed seasoning badly.
