“What an Exciting Delight!”
Reviewed June 17, 2014

The Modern's Dining Room with a spectacular view of the MOMA sculpture gardens is currently one of the most exciting places to eat in NYC, New Chef Abram Bissell is a genius and is creating such delicious food that it will take your breath away. The ingredients of each dish are so fresh and the kitchen has such beautiful inspirations that you will float as if in heaven throughout the meal. The service, of course, is impeccable and the wine list is excellent. The sommeliers provide just the right advice, whether you want a glass or a bottle of wine. Desserts are wonderful and are followed by a cart allowing you to choose some after dessert treats, like freshly made chocolates. If you want to feel really special, head to the Modern Dining Room for one of the most spectacular NYC dining experience that I have ever had.

“chic chack”

Sleek modern but loud space with top notch small plate cuisine and drinks in the barroom area. The restaurant size has more room but is next to the noisy bar area. A great place to meet for a drink for two; conversation would be difficult for more during peak afterwork hours.

“Gorgeous place, amazing food at The Modern”
Reviewed June 13, 2014

If you are planning to visit the MoMA do yourself a favor a make a lunch reservation at The Modern. If not going to the MoMa, please make a reservation and go the this place. First: the place is gorgeous. From the furniture, to the silverware everything is perfectly curated. Try to get a table in the back so you have the view of the sculpture garden: it’s good for the soul. Second: the service is elegant without being exaggerated. And finally: the food is amazing. For lunch they have a fixed-priced menu with three or four options for appetizers, entrées and desserts to choose from. Even the complimentary amuse-bouche (asparagus custard with ham, miniature croutons and shaved Parmesan) was delicious. Among the great dishes we had at our table were: curated hamachi with black olives and artichokes, …., steak with bone marrow and turnips in a wine reduction, slow roasted pork with pork belly and cherry sauce, ….,
This was our second visit to this restaurant and this time was even better than the previous one. A little expensive but well worth the price, the time and the location.

“Perfect in every way”
Reviewed June 13, 2014 via mobile

I've been a few times for business and took my wife and 3-yr kid recently and continue to be blown away by the service and quality of the while experience!

We took the chef's tasting menu with wine pairing. The wine pour with each course was generous and if you finish your pairing prior to finishing the dish, they'd refill it without additional cost. The wines were explained and well matched by a highly knowledgeable sommelier. The food was perfectly portioned, creative and tasty - not a single complaint.

Typically substitutions on tasting menus is discouraged or prohibited; when I asked, the server said, •sure...within reason, what did you have in mind?" So I switched a main to main and a dessert no problem. After dinner comes the cheese course with a fantastic and varied range of options! Pair with a glass of port or Madeira, also a nice range available by the glass. Then the chocolate cart comes...yes, they have a chocolate cart!!

They did not have a child menu but had great suggestions from the casual restaurant and made a nice flatbread for her in lieu of pizza.

Service was fantastic - they efficiently work as a team to keep water full, questions answered and dishes coming...although as the restaurant became busy it did slow a bit. When my wife went to the restroom, one of our dishes had just arrived and they immediately wheeled out a warming cart and placed the dish above candles to keep it warm - nicely done!!

As you leave, you get a small box of sweets to take home, seriously perfect dinner!!

“Delicious food in a beautiful setting!”
Reviewed June 10, 2014

One of the most exquisite dining experiences. We sat in the "dining room" which has a view of the MOMA sculpture garden and an atmosphere of understated elegance. The menu is extensive (up to four courses), and everything we ordered was a taste treat. The chef is an artist in the true sense of the word, not only for the presentation but also for the delicate blending of flavors and textures.

My first course was the Foie Gras Tart with Apricots and Lemon Thyme. It was delicious. My second course was the Roasted Foie Gras & Scallop Broccoli and Passion Fruit that also melted in my mouth. My third course, that I could barely eat half of as I was so full, was the Pistachio-Stuffed Chicken with Asparagus and Foie Gras.

As you can tell, I love foie gras, and get it whenever it is on a menu at any restaurant I go to around the world.

This meal was delicious, and I highly recommend The Modern when you are in NYC!
