“Great Museum, bad time to visit”
Reviewed March 12, 2014

Downstairs was amazing, the clothes, the shoes and don't miss the movie, though the noise of the guests made it very hard to hear. With Spring Break there were so many kids and the noise made it more difficult to enjoy. But do visit.

“Really lovely historical fashions”
Reviewed February 15, 2014

Visited this museum in February 2014 because I had discovered they had an exhibit on 1930's fashion. Although this museum is small, it is free of charge and has two floors of exhibitions for viewing. The top floor has historical fashion from many eras and the downstairs is the special exhibit of 1930's fashions. Some really lovely pieces and there were several cases of shoes worn by Fred Astaire! I really enjoyed this museum, it is right off the subway stop 28th street on the "1" line. If you have time, this is a nice little museum. I spent maybe an hour to an hour and 1/2 there, it was just enough time. Very easy to find, with some lovely fashions to look at. Do check their hours as I think they are limited on weekends.

“Don't go out of your way!”
Reviewed February 11, 2014

Read the review for this museum and sounded like it was worth visiting! There was mention of a shoe collection worth seeing, but it didn't even exist!

“Dropped on this by chance - a great place”
Reviewed January 4, 2014

Two floors of well curated exhibitions - on this occasion the one downstairs on queer fashion was particularly good. Much recommended, though the entrance is not particularly welcoming.

“Chelsea Bonus”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

Staying around the corner (Hotel Indigo) in December, we stopped in to check out the special exhibit, A Queer History of Fashion, and a thematic exhibit, Trend-ology. Pros: Free admission, fabulous clothes, a fun stop in the neighborhood, especially on a snowy day. The museum director, Valerie Steele, is a serious scholar. Cons: Looking at clothes on mannequins--not enthralling for everyone; the Trend-ology exhibit seemed like an ad for various designers.
