“Great place to hangout, dance & listen to live music!!”
Reviewed January 16, 2012

They were well prepared for a crazy New Year's Eve (2012) party! Three rooms with 2 DJs and 1 Band - well organized - and we could move from one to the other throughout the night.

It was my first visit there but it certainly looked like a place where you would go on a regular night out with friends.

Good Party, Good Food and Great Service!!

“Phenomenal music”
Reviewed August 27, 2011

We went to the Village Underground on a Friday night. We weren't sure we wanted to risk it but paid the $10 cover and wow, were we ever glad we did. The music was outstanding. They played genres from the 60's to present day. We even managed to nab a table and were pleasantly surprised to find the only requirement was a two-drink minimum per person and our server was fantastic. I have recommended this place to others traveling to NY and am definitely looking forward to a return visit myself.

“Not my scene & horrible service”
Reviewed April 7, 2011

We decided to go to the Village Underground after having it recommended by a friend. We went on a Sunday night for the open mic night. It was a fun atmosphere, although really not my normal scene. But, our waitress was awful. She consistently brought the wrong drinks, brought another table's food, and when we tried to get her attention she would usually be staring off into space or watching the band. She later told us it was her first night and hopefully she has improved - honestly she was one of the worst servers I've ever had.

As far as the music, the house band was great. I wasn't a huge fan of the host - he kept taking turns for songs when it would have been nice to hear the people waiting to sing. And, he would ridicule some of the singers after they had finished.

“Nice experience!!”
Reviewed October 20, 2009

Came here on a Sunday night and it was real cool. It has an underground feel. The live band was freaking TOP Shelf. On Sunday nights, you have to make a reservation, and they also randomly sit people at your table if it's not full. Also, they have several coercive capitalistic rules that you don't know about. After paying a $15 cover, you have a 2 drink minimum per person, including an automatic 15% gratuity. I felt violated and raped financially. However the wings, and Sangria are great.

The band is top shelf and had me screaming and singing all night. Overall, a great place to visit on Sunday night cuz they have open mic, and there is some great talent in NYC. Just bring some guap, cuz you will spend it!
