“Off the Beaten Path with Extraordinary Views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 6, 2011

I have always wanted to ride the Roosevelt Island Tram. So, I finally did….

I rode the filled-to-capacity tram on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. It was difficult to take photos while in the tram; too many riders (yes, I was one of them) and too much glare on the glass. Photography would have been easier with fewer people in the tram and better lighting conditions.

On Roosevelt Island, I went to the Visitor Center and was given a free map. I walked along the promenade to the lighthouse. The windy, sunlit walk was “off the beaten path,” with hardly anyone around. If you have the time, the lighthouse (built in 1872) is worthy of a visit.

The tram ride is ordinary. The views from the tram are extraordinary.

“An Excellant East River Aerial View”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2011

For the price of a subway ticket you can have a short but beautifully smooth ride on the Roosevelt Island Aerial Tram. You'll view the East River and the Manhattan skyline from the ram. We went at sunset. It reminded me of taking the Staten Island Ferry for the first time, many years ago. I got to see the city from a very different perspective with a hidden beauty I hadn't expected. We took the tram over to Roosevelt Island, walked around a bit and the subway back to save time. The island has little to see aside from a hospital, residential high-rises and a cool skyline of Manhattan. Since it's all up to you, you might want to ride the tram return trip. A countdown timer tells you when the next one will arrive.

“A different look at NYC”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2011

The tram gives you a different view of NYC. Its a very pleasant 3 minute ride and something that I would definitely recommend.

The trams are brand new as of November 2010 and get my top vote.

A must for any tourist in Manhattan.

Great views, amazing feeling!

“Beautiful views from the tram.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2009

Very cool views of Manhattan. The island is a hidden treasure. Tram ride was free with our subway pass. Have your cameras ready. Leave about every 15 minutes.
Go to the visitors center and get a map. Walk the walkway along the river-plenty of empty benchs to sit on. The views are beautiful of Manhattan. The tram and island are a must see if you are seeking quietness.

“Great time-killer”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2009

I had an three or so hours to kill until I had to get to Newark. The Aerial Tram was perfect. It's cheap at $2 each way and provides wonderful views of the 59th Street Bridge and city. I got off at Roosevelt Island and had a walk around. There's not much to see on Roosevelt Island but there are nice views of Manhattan across the river. It's not a tourist destination but it was pleasant enough. Recommended.
