The dakota is the building in which John Lennon and Yoko Ono lived. It's alos where he was shot and died. This interesting structure is just across from Central Park and nearby Strawberry Fields, a small place of honor for John Lenon set in the park itself. They would bothe be seen together from a walk getting off on a west side subway on 72nd street.

I am a big fan of John Lennon's so this was a must for me. Although the sun was shining, the entrance to the Dakota was in shade and there was a wind blowing making it cool. It was an experience standing and looking at the place where his life ended. It also made me realize how close he was to arrivng home safe and sound and that was sad.

Regardless of the Beatles link to this building and it still being the home of yoko ono, it really is a wonderful building on the west side of central park, this entire area is dotted with some wonderful apartment blocks, especially the upper west side of 84th street to around 92th

If you are going to Strawberry Fields in Central Park, then you might as well cross the street to see where John Lennon lived.
the guards to the Dakota are okay with you taking pictures.

The Dakota would be gorgeous and famous anyway. But knowing John Lennon lived here and died here give one chills. I would put it on the top 10 things to see in NY.
