“Surprised this restaurant made the top 5000.”

I'm confused by this. I'm an Italian American living in NYC for 33 years. Don't want to completely hate, but this is by no means a representation of NYC Italian food. I put this in the category of The Olive Garden. I just hope you read this if you are not from NYC. New Yorkers don't actually eat here. If you want real Italian, there are hundreds of better restaurants. Take a look on Zagats and filter by Italian and you will find better choices.

“Good food, odd service”
Reviewed December 21, 2012

We felt like our waiter was mad because we didn't order more aka spend more money! He kept trying to get us to get more alcohol and appetizers...then was upset because most of us wanted to order the same dish: spaghetti and meatballs! 3 of our 8 were children/ teens. Also it was expensive but so is every restaurant worth eating in NYC. The food was outstanding, especially the meatballs! I also loved the fettuccine with shrimp. The atmosphere is really nice too: cozy yet lively and fun.

“Always good”
Reviewed December 20, 2012

We typically visit Tony's when in NYC, and the chicken parm was every bit as good as usual. However, we tried the chocolate cake to go, having had an outstanding experience in the past with the strawberry shortcake to go, but the chocolate cake wasn't anything special - it might have been better in the restaurant.

And the tortellini was slightly undercooked and hard. We still enjoy it and may visit again but may branch out and try one of the other classics like Carmine's next time. Or we may go uptown to the other Tony's location.
