Owner description: The Rockefeller Center Tour celebrates the rich history and exciting presence of New York's architectural jewel. The center was the ambitious vision of a young John D. Rockefeller and hosts more than 100 breathtaking works of art. In addition to housing NBC, Radio City Music Hall and Christie's Auction House, Rockefeller Plaza is also the home of the world-famous skating rink visited by more than half a million people every year.

Despite the cold conditions outside, our guide, Helga provided a warm, informative and insightful tour of the centre and it's history.

We initially thought this tour was inside the Rockefeller centre but most of it is conducted outside, and all the better for it! Our tour guide, and I must use this tool to congratulate him on his presentation, the fantastic C Patrick, who was ultimately friendly, engaged each and everyone of his group through humour and his great knowledge of all things Rockerfarian! The tour encompasses Art, Architecture and the history of the site, and is thoroughly educational and entertaining. We ended the tour at the top of the rock where many photo opportunities exist, with your own camera or theirs! Having previously been to the Empire, I now declare this to be better.
So if you are on a very short visit like we us only one full day, consider this over and above the Empire

My wife and I are from Chicago and we visit NYC every other year making sure we take a tour of one of the many sites in NYC. This year we did the walking tour of Rockefeller Center including the observation deck with the best views of NYC. This was the most interesting tour we have ever taken. Our guide Lindsey was fantastic. She was extremely knowledgeable about how the area was developed. We were provided with headphones to hear her while we walked around the center, ducking in and out of the most beautifully decorated Rockefeller Center buildings. This was really helpful to me as an avid photographer who needs to sometimes walk in a different direction to get a particular camera angle. Not a word about this fascinating area was missed. Lindsey, our tour guide, was really special. It was a very cold day and some of the people on the tour were not used to the conditions. She carefully paced the tour in and out of building to keep everyone comfortable without losing the integrity of the tour. This was an exceptional experience for us and her professional attitude put it on " Top of the Rock".

We visited Top of the Rock at night and came there with a New York City pass. The view is quite similar to that from the Empire State Building, but off course from here you can actually see the ESB :-), and you're closer to the Central Park.

What disappointing was that you are allowed to bring your tripod up The Rock (not at the ESB!) but there's thick glass you have to photograph through, so far from ideal for the photographers amongst us. On The Rock is a small platform without glass where we could have taken pictures, but that was closed because of falling ice (of the antenna's).

So be aware of that when you choose between Empire or the Rock.

What was very nice, was the elevator ride. Don't forget to look up!! (The roof of the elevator-cabin is made of glass).
