“Delightful service, great food AND very gluten free friendly!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2013 via mobile

We stumbled into this restaurant. We loved the two beef dishes and the seafood sashimi salad. Our waiter, Ross, was helpful and completely committed to making sure our meal was gluten free. In addition, he created a wonderful sake tasting for us.

“Best Japanese Sushi in Times Sq”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2013

First, we LOVE this place. We found it a few years ago and since then we visit it with guests, or before shows. The restaurant is located conveniently off 7th Ave on 49th street. so it is a quick walk to most theaters. BTW next to it there is a great Japanese noodle joint, and there is an Asian Fusion joint in the basement - anyone of these is a solid Japanese foodie heaven - but we like Iroah because it is the more elegant and quite of the three.
This time around we went to have sushi after Mamma Mia which is on 51 and Broadway, just around the corner. We did not have time to sit before the 8:00 start.
We (my beautiful wife and me) usually have a few favorites this time they were two rolls, miso soup, spicy tuna tartare (wife favorite) it comes with a raw Quail egg, and we took one "new" dish to test the Nasu Agedashi which according to the menu is fried eggplant & rice cakes with dash soy broth (I checked the description on-line).
As I said they have great fresh sushi, and the other dishes are fresh, come out fast and taste great. Maybe one of the reasons we like it is that it is always full but rarely crowded (we don't like empty places and don't like to wait). Also it always feels that half of the guests are of Japanese origin which makes us believe that if they like this place it must be good. The whole bill with a 21 oz bottle of Sapporo including tax and tip (which was automatically added?!) came to approx $58.
If you read my other posts you know that I am all about $$$/value proposition. I think for a Japanese place they are priced fairly, when you consider the decor, location, service and food, this is one of the best value places in NYC.
This is one of my secret places in NYC - be nice when you go there, I might see you there.

“Excellent, Fresh Sushi”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2013

My wife & I had a quick trip to New York City recently and wanted to find a Japanese restaurant in the area where we were staying. We found Iroha and decided to try it out. The atmosphere is fine but not like an exclusive, romantic restaurant. Like many places in New York you're seated very close to other people so a quiet, private conversation is not possible. The food and service, however, are excellent. My wife & I both had chirashi sushi which had a variety of very good & fresh fish and a nice size portion especially for the price and being in New York. The staff were very attentive and we lacked for nothing. We noticed a large number of Asian people eating there which is always a good sign in an Asian restaurant. When we return to New York we'll definitely try it again.

“Seems popular”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2013

Having been to the Japanese restaurants along the same street, we decided to try Iroha for lunch. This appears to be popular, especially with the Asian office crowd.

We both ordered the fried chicken set, which came with soup, rice and salad - the chicken was nice but could have been more crispy and had a little more ginger used in its marinade.

We were seated in a back room past the gents and there was also a strong smell of pee. Service was fast and efficient, and our ordered appeared at the table within 15 minutes.

“Interesting Eats”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 7, 2013

You will find a large selection of Japanese items that are not found in your run of the mill Japanese restaurant. We had a variety of dishes in addition to sharing a bento box. The food in the bento box was typical. The other items like the chicken and veggie filled omelet or the ribs were more unusual items. Our only complaint was the service. It was not as attentive. Perhaps that was because the restaurant was busy with the after theater crowd. We sat in the back room so it was quiet with the exception of one table. I would go back again.
