Sitting in New Zealand, I'd been reading about the High Line since it began, hence I couldn't wait to get there. 8.30am and it was deserted, giving me time to wander and take photos. By 10.30am, it was filling up and chances are your photos would include other people. Go on a day when the High Line people have their shop there - good souvenirs and some excellent books with photos. Roll on the next phase.

It was a beautiful very warm morning when we set off for the Hi Line. Joined the path at 14 th Street. Plenty to see and do. Took lots of interesting photographs, especially at one spot where there is a glass wall and you look directly down on the highway. Whether you spend 30 minutes or a couple of hours on this walk, you will enjoy it.

We were delighted at this park above the city. We walked it 3 times in days. Our son who joined us later in our visit thought the Highline was worth his entire trip. A unique feature to a great city.

What a treat to find a raised Marginal Way in the middle of a vast metropolis. This is such a clever use of derelict railroad tracks. One of the most creative uses of an environment that is undergoing considerable change from docklands and industrial buildings to condos and upbeat industries. The periodic view of the Hudson and New York's active port, as well as the thoughtful and spectacular gardens along the way, make for an exhilarating and pleasing walk. There are also benches and open areas which provide views of central New York and these seem well appreciated as many of the pedestrians were reading, picnicking or just sitting and enjoying the views as we walked by.
