I stayed one week (07 nights) at the Rivington Hotel this June, and it was a great experience.
The Hotel is cool but not arrogant, the guests are modern and stylish without being snob.
The staff in the door are helpful and in the front desk they are young hipsters with not appropriately the best attitude, but this is not really important at all.
The room I stayed (45) was in the fourth floor, very wide and spacious and the bathroom had steam, and a nice shower. The bed is incredible, simply giant, and the sheets and pillows wonderful.
The street is full of bars and nightlife but the windows are noise proof. You can hear some noise and streetlife but nothing that really bothers you, or can´t put you into sleep.
My girlfriend had a great impression of the Hotel, and we enjoyed it a lot.
In the morning breakfast is good, with a selection of breads, butter, jelly, cream cheese and fruits.
The atmosphere is also calm, with a good music and service.
I have always stayed in mid town or the Upper East Side, but chosing the Rivington was my best option. The are is modern and fresh and has a hip atmosthere.
It was definitely a great cost benefit choice, and I strongly recommend this hotel for those who are looking for a rest but like to be in the middle of where things are happening in NY.

We stayed one night at The Rivington and give the room high marks for style and comfort. However, the hotel is a mixed experience. The lobby and common areas are worn and shabby and not up to our expectations considering the top dollar price we paid for our stay. We enjoyed the room, but will not return again.

I have stayed at the Rivington twice now for business, in Jan and in Feb 09. Both times I got an awesome rate. The first time really impressed me. At check-in I was given a voucher for a complimentary tasting menu dinner in the restaurant downstairs (which was delicious, by the way). My room was a corner room on a relatively high floor with a small balcony that overlooked the atrium of the restaurant and had both the biggest/deepest soaking tub I've ever seen and a lovely shower with a view. In fact, I had the most amazing view from my bed, which was nothing short of magical when the snow started falling the next morning. It was hard to find fault with anything on this stay. Certainly not the cookies they give you at turndown!

The second stay was very nice, but I didn't feel like they had pulled out all the stops like they did the previous stay. The room I got was not a corner room and much plainer on a lower floor. Same sort of decor, just no soaking tub. The beds are SO comfy though. Still got cookies at turn-down and even a little welcome amenity of nuts, chocolates, and dried fruit. I used the gym this time and it was small with no windows, but the equipment was great. The room's windows faced the back of the hotel which was over a courtyard of a bar/pub I think. VERY loud on the Thursday night that I was there and other coworkers that have stayed there since have also complained of noise on certain nights of the week.

Will definitely stay there again as long as their rate is competitive.

The location is great for those who like being in walking distance of some of the best restaurants in the city (the Lower East Side).

Expectations determine experiences. If you want Rockefeller Center and mid-town tourist havens this is not your place. On the other hand, the edgy (or tawdry depending on perspective) Lower East Side has a dynamic young vibe and is easy walking distance to the Village, Soho, and Tribeca. The Subway "F" Line is only 1 block away. My 22 year old son and I had a "double double" room on the 16th floor. Many NYC hotel rooms have only one bed. Bathroom was interior, unlike some rooms with glass walled exterior showers. You want to be on the higher floors (12 and above) both for the view and the distance from street noise. Beds are visco memory foam and outstanding. Rooms and bathrooms are compact, but well laid out and acceptable in size for New York. Wi-Fi is available throughout the building and is free. Our room was clean and well serviced by the housekeeping staff, but the bathroom tile needs a thorough cleaning (one of the few negatives). Unlike some other posts, we found the staff to be exceptionally helpful and friendly. My son left 3 shirts in our room after checking out and he was tracked down in the lobby with the returned shirts. Nice. Don't discount the value of an included continental breakfast. It saves time and money, and the basics were there (fruit, cereal, croissants, coffee). We stayed 3 nights during the Tribeca Film Festival and got a fair rate of $280 per night. All in all a favorable experience worthy of a return visit.

The room smelled bad - very bad. The view was abysmal. The neighborhood was unsavory. The furniture was cheap, chipped and tasteless. I would not stay at this hotel again if it were free. The staff was oblivious to the problems with the hotel and arrogant. This is the first bad review I have ever written about a hotel and I travel constantly.

The staff actually lies to you. If you request something they say yes and then do nothing about it. All the staff if uptight and obnoxious. The hotel is dirty and there were creatures walking around in the night.

The two things that Hotel On Rivington has going for it are it's location and the rooms.

We stayed in a high floor room with Japanese soaking tub. The room was a good size but in need of a lick of paint. We had a fantastic view of downtown from both the bedroom and bathroom.

The hotel bar is fairly dull and also in need of some care and attention. It gets busy for after work drinks but apart from that there isn't much going on. You're better off going to the bar next door.

Breakfast was a continental buffet affair with anything hot involving an extra charge!

I would look elsewhere in future.
