“Best Chinese meal I've ever had.”
Reviewed May 6, 2014

I can't remember exactly what we ate (it was several weeks ago), but this was certainly the best Chinese meal I've ever had. Rich flavours, innovative combinations, prompt and attentive service, and lots of free green tea. A wee bit squashed, but I guess they want as many people as possible to eat their gorgeous food!

“Decent noodles”
Reviewed March 20, 2014

After having read rave review in NY magazine had to try this. We had to get food to go and eat in the car so choices were limited. I had cold sesame noodles ($6.95) which did not have a "heat" rating. I am not a fan of anything "hot." Noodles were divine but did have a slight heat which was not immediately detectable - kind of an after burn but not uncomfortable. Definitely strong garlic flavor. My son tried them and we think they are the best sesame noodles we've ever had. Also split order of spring rolls (2 for $3.50) which were tasty, not overly greasy, with light filling contents. He had the dan-dan noodles which had a heat rating of 6. He started eating the noodles and said heat level was fine and he could go "hotter" but then the after burn caught up with him and he had to take a noodle break. He pronounced the noodles "good." We are going to go again when we have time to dine in and sample more of the menu.

“Need to be patient for a table but worth it!”
Reviewed February 16, 2014

What a wonderful surprise. This property does not take bookings, the check in process is a little all over the shop, the manager who controls the bookings is a little eccentric and not always in control but once you get a seat that all changes.

Exceptional wait staff, and the food. Excellent just does not cover it, you want a break from the expensive and so so? This is the place to go!

“Average Chinese Food in East Village”
Reviewed February 2, 2014

Went during lunch time with no wait, yay! They have lunch specials on the back of the menu with limited options, smaller portions, and cheaper prices.

My friend and I ordered 3 dishes, the highly raved, dan dan noodles, double cooked style chicken, and triple fried pork.

The dan dan noodles were sweet with lots of peanut flavor. The only main component missing was the "spiciness." Wasn't spicy at all!
The double cooked style chicken was OK. Chicken was thin, flat pieces and good but that was all it was!
The triple fried pork was a dish with small shriveled friedness. The pieces were so small and deep fried, you would forget there was meat in it. It was like really really deep fried noodles.

Overall, the dishes were solid but I didn't find anything Szechuan about this Chinese restaurant. The usual Szechuan restaurants I go to have a sea of hot red oil everywhere, on almost every single dish. Dishes are actually tangly spicy. Han Dynasty had too many traditional Chinese dishes like three cup chicken that weren't necessarily Szechuan style and for this big reason, I have to knock a star. They seemed to try to please the East Villager's taste in Chinese food rather giving them the real stuff. Any way, if you want good Chinese food, this is definitely a good addition to the neighborhood.

“Great food at a bustling location”
Reviewed January 29, 2014 via mobile

We've been twice, ordered different dishes each time, and loved them all. We also tried delivery and, unfortunately, the order was problematic on every level -- including the food. To solve that pesky problem is easy, though: dine only at the restaurant itself & skip delivery all together. They don't take reservations so depending on time you arrive, you may face a wait. But If you're going to be in Gramercy or the East Village, it's a worthwhile place for a spicy tasty Chinese meal.
