I first heard about Pig Heaven on one of the food channels. They were searching for the best spareribs, and mentioned this place on the upper east side of NY. I went on Trip Advisor and read all the glowing reviews as well as the one that complained about sitting near the door because they didn't make a reservation. So months before the trip, I called and made a 7pm reservation on the Saturday of Memorial day weekend.
When we arrived, 2 of the people in our party were sitting a table away from the door in the noisy bar area. I asked the hostess why we were seated there, and she claimed there was no reservation in our name. I insisted we did make the reservation, and gave her the approximate date I called. She went into the back room, came up and said they did have a table, but it was a long one and not round. Would we be ok with this (7 in our party). We agreed, and were seated immediately.
The ribs are every bit as good as everyone says. Meaty, with a pleasant Chinese BBQ sauce. They bring you more in case you want it. The peking duck was very lean with a crispy skin. We also ordered a stir fried noodle dish, shrimp with walnuts, and a fish dish on the back of the menu. Everything was excellently prepared. We eat a lot of Chinese food in many different areas, and will be back on a future visit to NYC>
