“A real feel of home on the road”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

I was working in NYC for 1 year and found this location. I also visited for a couple nights again last year and dropped by to say hello 3 weeks ago.
I stayed here for 1 year and was extremly satisfied with the accomodation, service and security.
All and I mean all of the desk staff, doormen and managers were the nicest folks you could ever meet. It truely felt like home. The apartement was larger than most NYC apts and the applicances including the 42 inch HD TV were new.
I really miss AKA and the staff/management

Room Tip: Go for the newer renovated lower floor without balcony. Note this is a longer term stay place not an...

We stayed here for a week in February 2012. Price was great, value for money was remarkable! Our suite was sizable, clean and stylish. We even had some friends staying for a night over at the suite with us, and it still didn't feel too small. Only negative issue is the breakfast, which is not too great.

I agree with the previous review so reused the headline. I was initially unenthusiastic about the location but it is very close to Grand Central (not to mention Grand Central Market). It is also a quiet street. The rooms and amenities are good and the staff are excellent, above and beyond.

Good extended stay hotel right between the UN and Grand Central Terminal. I was there during hurricane Sandy and they had back up power, stocked up on water for us and were always cheerful. Higher floors are recommended to mitigate traffic noise, though not ban being on a quiet section of 46th St. Everything you need is within walking distance. Rooms clean, modern tho the bathrooms are small. Kitchen has an oven as well as microwave and stove, a plus.

Room Tip: Higher floors, but remember, only two elevators.

Aka united nations is perfectly located, well equipped, European style with all amenities e.g. In the kitchen you need. Stuff is professional and always friendly and helpful. Internet is free and with perfect speed. Forget about the breakfast that is just coffee, apples and pastries. And be aware that the aircon is not up to date and more old fashioned and extreme noisy. All in all a perfect alternative to a hotel if you stay longer in NYC.

What pleasantly surprised on the location and cost. It's close to wonderful places to eat. Rooms are very nice and clean. I especially loved the white sheets on bed...AHHHH...Definitely coming back. The staff was very couterous and breakfast was nice. The doorman will hail a cab for you which is important when it rains.

We stayed at the AKA - UN for 2 weeks in May and our stay was most comfortable. The rooms are exactly as shown in the photographs - the beds are comfortable, the kitchen is good-sized with all new steel appliances (not that it matters, except for the feel-good factor) and bathroom is average sized - the way most Manhattan homes are. Great location, in a pretty residential street, great eateries around, a convenient walk to Grand Central station and a 20 minute walk to Times Square (if as a tourist, it interests you!) The lobby is bright and cheery and the staff polite and ready to help. After having checked in we had a bit of an issue about the room overlooking a back - building and upon request, they did manage to shift us to a room facing the street. (The back side building looks like a dungeon and truly depressing to look at) Most rooms come with a small balcony, a treat in this high-rise city! The furniture in the living room is a little dated (with a TV, not LCD enclosed in a wooden cabinet). Other than that, there is adequate closet space and a mini-safe too. The house-keeping does a good job. Breakfast consisting of some croissants and yogurt is just enough for a quick, small bite. Can't make a meal of it. The Comfort Diner is a great breakfast place in the adjacent street. Down the road you will also find a great German eating place, Le Pain Quotidienne, a Turkish cafe and many more - all within a 2 minute walk. Avoid the Italian eatery in the same lane, its got the grumpiest and rudest staff that we came across in our 2 week stay. "Amish" is a great food store in the adjoining street. To conclude - great rooms, attentive house-keeping, helpful staff and a great location is what makes AKA - UN stand out. Highly recommended!!

Room Tip: Please ask for the rooms facing the street. The back-side rooms overlook a rather dungeon looking de...
