We stayed in the Hampton Inn – Madison Square Garden on the last stop of our trip to America. We arrived by train from Vermont and the hotel is a 10 minute walk from Penn Station (and easy to get to). They have recently been doing some building work around the hotel but there is just empty land (no noise) at the moment.

We had booked online last year and paid extra for a city view room but the reception staff advised us that they no longer offered city view rooms but we were not offered a discount on the price we had paid. The room was clean and a fair size (for a room in New York, we’ve stopped in smaller rooms). The hotel is in a good location and Broadway, the Empire State Building and other tourist places are well within walking distance. A bonus for this hotel is the breakfast included in the price, it’s not amazing but its good and you can help yourself to a variety of options.

I would recommend staying at the Hampton Inn, its more affordable than many hotels, the breakfast is a bonus and it’s in a good location. I would have given it 5 stars if I had been informed that they no longer offered city view rooms and I had been given a discount on the room fee that I had paid.

Stayed here with spouse & 2 kids recently for both business + personal purposes for a total of 3 days/nights. Upon entering the room we were immediately taken back by how tiny the room is.
The size is smaller than a typical college dorm room, probably no bigger than 12 ft x 10 ft. in total, including bathroom. Somehow the hotel squeezed in two double beds, with a tiny portable closet, and a miniature desk. There was practically no space for our luggage since there is no wall closet and hardly any space left for walking. Funny part is bathroom took up about 40% of total room size, when it could've been smaller, so the bedroom side can at least have a bit more space for people to walk. Had to ask for a cube size refrigerator from housekeeping to keep a few beverages and food items cold and fresh. Temperature in the room swings from very cold to very hot, as thermostat control doesn't work too well, eventually got sick from the constant fluctuation of temperatures. Only saving grace of entire stay is the warm breakfast in the morning, which is half decent. Will not stay here again, definitely not with the rest of the family.

Room Tip: Unless you are a single business traveler, or at most a couple looking to shop near Macy's and n...

Very quiet and clean room. Front Desk and Breakfast staff helpful and kind. Very close to Penn Station, Chelsea, subway connections and the HighLine (above ground converted railway turned walking wonder with sculpture and gardens). The breakfast room was crowded (Saturday morning) but decent enough options and it was clean. My room was freezing cold and neither me nor my friend could figure out how to change the temperature. We were only there 1 night so we toughed it out. The rooms are small but for a short stay, it's perfectly fine.

While on a short visit to New York City we stayed at the Hampton Inn at Madison Square Garden. The hotel was excellent. We enjoyed the breakfast but the front desk staff was the best. They were not only friendly and efficient but they showed concern when due to the hot weather, I experienced an unfortunate nose bleed. The staff quickly went for tissue and supplied me with cool water until the bleeding stopped. Thanks for your prompt attention.

stayed there for 3 nights . wonderful location -- penn station & herald square stn with many metro lines in 5 minutes walk. we went uptown & downtown easily with an MTA card.
just a nice walk to lots of landmarks & eating joints (indian also)
the room was little bit tight for a couple with teenager kid & 3 big bags .
the breakfast was lovely sumptuous full meal to start the day. the staff was extremely helpful with tips.
the was a little bit of problem with the room which could not be corrected despite repeated reminders & lots of effort by the staff. there was prompt change of room but we were left with a bad feeling.

Room Tip: ask for the front -- the rear ones seem to directly look into offices. going up doesn t help as its...

Make sure you've got realistic expectations of a hotel in central Manhattan that doesn't cost the earth and this hotel will not disappoint you. I stayed here with a friend for three nights in June 2013. The room was not huge but we had two double beds and a good size bathroom - both were nice and clean. The room was air conditioned. The wardrobe was tiny but hey - that's not the end if the world. The staff were really helpful and the breakfast - although not luxurious - had a lot of choice. There was fresh fruit, pastries, omelettes, French toast, bagels, toast, porridge, cereals, waffles (cooked by pouring waffle mix into the waffle iron yourself - I loved it!). The was no fridge in the room but there was an ice bucket and you could get ice from machines around the hotel - so we had chilled champagne when we wanted it :-) The location was great - on 31st Street between 6 & 7 Avenue - very close to Penn Station which is handy for travel to and from JFK. One day we went uptown to Times Square (10 blocks north) and Central Park. The next day we went downtown, walking on the High Line (Google it - it's a great walkway on an old above ground railway line) which starts at 30th Street just a few blocks west of the hotel. The High Line takes you down into the Meatpacking District and very close to Greenwich Village. So don't expect a luxury hotel, but if you stay here you will get everything you need for a place to rest up between your site seeing trips around the city.

We were looking for a relatively inexpensive hotel for an overnight stay..had to be close to midtown..this Hampton Inn was perfect. Convenient to everything, due to its proximity to so many subway lines. The hotel and our room were super clean, the staff was superior to many in five star hotels we have stayed in....and free breakfast! Can't go wrong.
