“Pretty Good Old style Hotel in Greenwich Village/NYU area of Manhattan”
Reviewed January 13, 2014

I stayed at this hotel for one night while traveling to NYC.

*The downstairs lounge/restaurant bar was classy
*It is an old style hotel with a small elevator and small staircase with small rooms but it is well presented and maintained.
*I was given a room with two twin size beds and the room seemed as if it would've been small with one queen size bed.
*Room was excellently presented
*Bathroom had tile floors and vertical hanging shower.
*The closet provided was small but extremely efficient.
*The total price of the hotel was roughly $200 total after taxes on a Friday night, about average considering the area.

Stayed here in December to accompany an evening of rock and roll at Webster Hall. Dude at check-in was a laid-back pleasure, room was small but cozy, bed was perfection for a quick nap, location was excellent for walking and exploring, and bathrooms were small but the fixtures was awesome. Price was great for NYC, would stay again in a heartbeat.

Hotel - intimate, personal experience - the desk guys get to know you (Tommy is a true gent and complete asset to the hotel I hope his management know how great and professional he is), the concierge(s) remember you and I love that about a hotel. Big, anonymous chain hotels couldn't care less when you make enquiries or ask for directions or recommendations - in the Marlton Tommy took every request personally and was unbelievably helpful - we are very grateful to him. I love small hotels that know your face, salute you, help you out - take time to chinwag about your day etc. The room was small but cosy - top notch bed, top notch bed linen, great bathroom, lovely rainforest double shower - no complaints once you are aware that the rooms are small you won't be disappointed. We had 4 suitcases and stuffed 2 under the bed and the other 2 in the wardrobe - easy... who needs more space!! We had a room on 8th floor (815) at the back - no noise except from the corridor, the door leaks a bit of noise and doesn't seem to seal/close tightly. I rang down to complain about neighbours one night and within 1 minute the night manager was up in the lift reading the riot act to the noisy crowd next door who had their door open to spread the noise around! So issue sorted in gig-time thank you Marlton!
All in all room was lovely, the olde-worlde classy panelling was gorgeous - bathrobes and lots of towels supplied.
Lobby etc. really popular with locals, great bar not big just right, lovely foyer to sit around the open fire. We ate one night, food was a bit modern for us but polished it off anyway! The french fries were some kind of squash fries... the poor potato is too old fashioned for Marlton! Burger was fantastic. We didn't have breakfast - we went to Waverly Diner 5 mins away on 6th Ave.
Location is fab - Bleecker St and the Village on your doorstep, McDougal St with the Terra Blues blues club a few mins walk. Great restaurants e.g. Monument Lane etc all a stones throw - honestly this location is fantastic - full of locals eating and drinking in their favourite local places - its so much better than staying in Mid-town where they throw the food at tourists and clear the table asap!
Jimmy runs the car service for the hotel - he was brilliant - collected us from Loeb Boathouse took us to JFK for a great price - he was totally reliable and a nice fella so again Marlton car service was spot on.
Thanks Tommy - keep up the good work at the front desk - you are a real asset to the hotel with your recommendations and helpfulness printing off basketball tickets, 911 Memorial tickets etc!!!
See you again soon!

Room Tip: Back of hotel - no street noise but no view.

I booked the Marlton with trepidation as the reviews here were mixed (to say the least). I got a very good rate for the location (~$200/night) and it sounded like a cool building so I booked it. It turns out that it's a great NYC version of a nice Parisien 3* hotel - lots of charm, great walkable location, and friendly staff.

Great idea - it was much better than many of the reviews would suggest.

Room - we were on the 6th floor at the back and our room was quiet, private, and very comfortable. Sure the rooms are very small but it was very similar to a classic French 3-star hotel in Paris. Bathroom was very functional and a proper size.

Staff - what nice folks. They've got the Greenwich village hipster thing down - like it or not - but they are efficient, helpful, and very nice. The guy at the coffee bar in the mornings could not have been more pleasant.

Neighbourhood - what a score! Thank goodness we weren't up in busy midtown. Pretty quiet street, great access to the city (subway stop just a couple of blocks away), great restaurants (try Amelie right across the street - review coming), and a very pleasant walk to Chelsea and the Highline.

Building - very cool. Great elevator, really nice bar/cafe area (we didn't eat there so can't comment on the food but the coffee was good). And they even provide a free NY Times (even on Sunday!)...

Things to work on? The only one that we noticed was the noise-proofing of the doors. It's not great so you can hear hallway activity at night. It wasn't a big deal for us (and my wife is a light sleeper but was basically unaffected). Otherwise, the sound-proofing between rooms was great (the hotel was full but we heard nothing from other rooms) and outside noise was never an issue.

I will return to the Marlton if I return to NYC...

Room Tip: I made a special request for a quiet room so we were on the 6th floor at the back. It worked great f...

Had read about The Marlton in The New York Times and a stop over in NY provided the chance to experience it first hand. Warm lobby, rooms that evoke Paris (even in small size!). Staff could not have been any more helpful (especially manager Eric and Sean who checked me in.) All this in a great neighborhood. Thoroughly enjoyable! I will be back!

It's hard not to overdue the superlatives about the Marlton, a boutique in the heart of Greenwich Village that feels more like Kensington than New York. The location could not be better, at the corner of 5th Ave, a half block from Washington Square and the Arch, midway between the subways up 6th and 7th and the east side lines. We arrived to find the espresso bar open til 6 -- some of the best cappuccino and latte we have found in NY -- and a bar and restaurant open til midnight. We were rushing off to the opera so checked in quickly, grabbed a quick dinner and returned later for a drink and dessert. Our room was small but perfectly adequate in every way -- there is no dresser but if you're staying for a couple days there is plenty of room in the closet to perch a suitcase. The bathroom is ample -- a minor details is the water pressure which in the morning was weak; the front desk assured us they were aware of this and working on it. Everything was spotless. The staff could not have been friendlier or more genuine. We will definitely be back.

My stay at The Marlton Hotel was perfect: staff very friendly and helpful, honest price, clean and new rooms. And an amazing and very cozy big living room with fireplace. It's also very well placed in NY. Only one thing could be better: the rooms are too small. But anyway is worth! I surely will recommend The Marlton Hotel to my friends!
