Description: Down a short flight of stairs from the sidewalk, but worlds away from the bustle of Midtown Manhattan, Flûte Midtown operates in a space that was once a speakeasy run by the notorious Texas Guinan. Texas Guinan was infamous for her brazen disregard of Prohibition, her army of scantily clad showgirls, her witty catch-phrases and her string of New York nightclubs where writers, socialites and shady types rubbed elbows. Flûte Midtown’s speakeasy history is preserved in its subtle lighting, cocktail menu and honeycomb of intimate booths, and it continues the tradition of providing a haven to the chic, the literary, the night owls and those in-the-know. On the last Saturday of every month, Club Wit’s End brings the Jazz Age roaring back with live hot jazz and period apparel.

We hadn't planned to visit, in fact we didn't know it was there. Sounded interesting so we made a trip later that evening. Quaint room, house music was not too loud for conversation but covered the close tables. Make it before 7...

Great drinks, enthusiastic service, and delightful music in a tiny (about 12 people max) corner. The musicians are no more than a few feet away. The night we were there a trio was playing 30's jass/blues standards with guitar/harmonica, bass & violin. Perfection.

Only point off is because they didn't have much REAL wine. Mainly champagne and specialty drinks. The Green Kimono was excellent, and their appetizers are really good. Happy hour is 2 for one drinks (but only for 1 person, so be ready to have at least 2 drinks!)

Got to love New York! - My hubby and I loved this bar so much we actually went to both of bar locations in New York City!
There is one in "Midtown" and one in "Gramercy". Midtown is great if your staying anywhere near Time Sq as its pretty much in walking distance but Gramercy has recently been updated and definitly worth the visit (only about 10mins in a cab from tine sq).
These bars have a fantastic range of French Champagne, we were really impressed with the variation on prices. We love our champagne and were pleasantly surprised when we could enjoy some good quality french for as little as $65 a bottle!
Here in Australia you can pretty much count on a bottle of french costing you at least $120 at any bar or restaurant.
The look and feel of the bars are very old world romantic, lots of red velvet with comfy cushions and private seating. The also serve great cheese and bar food.
We found all the waiters very knowledgable and service was great.
We had the best time and will definitly go back if ever we return to NYC.
Happy Travels!

Good selection of champagne with reasonable prices, small dishes for sharing, make Flute an ideal stop if you unluckily happen to find yourself near Times Square and you and your date are in the mood for champagne!! Across from David Letterman's The Late Show Theater!!
