Three of us showed up for dinner without a reservation at 9:30 p.m. on a Friday night. There was a short line, bustling service, and a shortage of wait staff. Regardless, the host seated us quickly and pitched in as a server to keep each table humming. That's the quality of service there, which felt like a proud family restaurant. The food didn't surpass other higher end Greek mediterranean restaurants in Manhattan, but it was in competition and earnestly so. What we enjoyed was the comfort of dining casually, the delicious seafood, yummy dips and al dente vegetables. It was fresh and filling without stuffing ourselves so late in the evening.

Very inattentive service coupled with everything overcooked this included fish, moussaka and everything else we ate. At least the manager was graceful enough to take the wine off our bill. His excuse was" they were very busy". Nothing more to say.

We dropped by at Ithaka on Halloween night for dinner and were lucky to get a table. At the moment this restaurant is hidden behind all the construction work going on 86th street. The restaurant is cozy and cute. Excellent suggestion of red wine from the host...landed up ordering two glasses even though we had no intention of drinking! We ordered a scallop and shrimp skewer and a chicken main course with onion and bell peppers. Excellent breads with interesting dip in olive oil. The sea food was excellent with all the flavours intact. The chicken was good and well made - I would not say excellent because it was a bit too chunky for my preference. We ended our meal with a great Greek coffee (which can keep you awake all night). We paid approx USD 70 for our dinner for 3 people and truly worth it! George is one of the nicest hosts we have come across in Manhattan. He makes you feel welcome and warms your heart on a cold October night. We have visited many restaurants in the city in the last 3-4 months but still haven't come across a host as nice as George. In a city where every second restaurant serves good food, it's this "service with a smile" that is going to make me keep going there again!

Good food, crisp service, professional wait staff, pleasant ambiance, and good selection of Greek wines. Moderately expensive. Recommended!

We really enjoyed our recent dinner at Ithaka. Easy walking distance from Central Park and the Metropolitan Art Museum, even on a warm day. Service was excellent, though we opened the place at 5:30 PM. A small room, dark and cool and pretty in a greek style. All the food was top notch with large portions and very fresh, if slightly americanized. A great evening after a day atthe art museum.
