Description: Grand Central Oyster Bar is the ultimate experience for any seafood. Lover. From the market to your plate, we've spent nearly a hundred years perfecting our seafood dishes. Every morning, the chef goes to the New Fulton Fish Market to personally pick the day's freshest seafood. Everything from lobster to different kinds of fish is hand-picked for the best flavor and freshness. We're most famous for our oysters though, with over 30 different varieties on any given day. Have your dishes prepared minimally, or choose to have your meal in the form of a po' boy. Whatever floats your boat. To go with your Oysters, our extensive wine list has over 400 wines by the glass or bottle, 55 of which are priced under $38. We love sharing our great seafood, so we like to keep everything, including our prices, accessible. Come in for our Happy Hours (menu on website), where you and your friends can pick up some fresh food and drinks at prices so good it's fishy! Across our restaurant we have more than 450 tables across two dining rooms. Traditional experiences are supplemented by our saloon, which features a large bar. Instead, you could choose to sit at Oyster Bay, where you can watch your Oysters being shucked. The Grand Central Oyster Bar has always been a social experience, bustling with buzz, activity and a rich history. There is truly nowhere else like it!

“Always Fresh, fast and fabulous”
Reviewed May 14, 2014

Years ago a friend took me here for oysters. Ive never forgotoon it, 6 from the west coast, small, like champagne and six from the west coast, large, meaty full of the sea. I had to let Rick have that experience too. So we started with that and loved every one of them.... it great because you get a print out of the names. We loved them all but Kumamoto were the favourites.

We followed with soft shell crab for Rick and mihai mihai (or something like that) fish for me. All great and really knowledgeable and helpful waiters. Go here!

“A bit disappointing”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

We'd made reservations (with great anticipation) several days ahead of time and the first thing we were asked when we showed up was if we could gobble down our food in less than an hour as they were expecting a large party in 1-1/2 hours and needed to take over our table. OK.... We agreed to gobble quickly and were seated. Venue was a lot noisier and more casual than expected. Lobster cocktails were so-so, fried calamari was average, Manhattan clam chowder was pretty good. Service was surprisngly slow (given the expectation of our quick gobbling) and there were a few screw-ups/miscommunications with our orders. While the meal was OK (and adjacent to our hotel), I would likely not return because there are so many other awesome restaurants in NYC. (Here's a tip for restaurant mgmt: Swapping white tablecloths for the red/white checked Italian ones would improve the busy ambiance and help make the restaurant come across as a calm oasis in a crazy busy location. Just sayin')...

“Simply the freshest clams and most comprehensive selection of oysters available anywhere.”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

I have eaten here many times and it's always excellent. Oysters all over from the United States. There are also cherrystone top that and littleneck clams. There stews involving various types of shellfish and lobster are excellent. Made right in front of you if you happen to be sitting at the bar.

“Many visits over the last 30 years-this one was great!”
Reviewed May 10, 2014

My wife and I have dined at the Oyster Bar many times over the last 30 years. The experience is usually good-it has been a little patchy at times . But our visit for lunch this April was just fine The oysters, the broiled fish were just great. Service was swift and attentive. The Oyster Bar is busy at lunchtimes but our server was on point. Needless to say-we shall return!

“Beautiful building, nice ambience. Disappointed by my meal.”
Reviewed May 10, 2014 via mobile

I'm not one for seafood, however we were advised this was a must to do whilst visiting NY. I was given a choice of chicken or steak, and i ordered the chicken. My girlfriend had an oyster platter.

My chicken was really dry, almost difficult to eat. My girlfriend enjoyed the oysters.

I would suggest anyone that doesn't eat seafood to perhaps find somewhere that has a wider menu of meats, etc.

The restaurant is a beautiful place to have dinner though!
