Description: Grand Central Oyster Bar is the ultimate experience for any seafood. Lover. From the market to your plate, we've spent nearly a hundred years perfecting our seafood dishes. Every morning, the chef goes to the New Fulton Fish Market to personally pick the day's freshest seafood. Everything from lobster to different kinds of fish is hand-picked for the best flavor and freshness. We're most famous for our oysters though, with over 30 different varieties on any given day. Have your dishes prepared minimally, or choose to have your meal in the form of a po' boy. Whatever floats your boat. To go with your Oysters, our extensive wine list has over 400 wines by the glass or bottle, 55 of which are priced under $38. We love sharing our great seafood, so we like to keep everything, including our prices, accessible. Come in for our Happy Hours (menu on website), where you and your friends can pick up some fresh food and drinks at prices so good it's fishy! Across our restaurant we have more than 450 tables across two dining rooms. Traditional experiences are supplemented by our saloon, which features a large bar. Instead, you could choose to sit at Oyster Bay, where you can watch your Oysters being shucked. The Grand Central Oyster Bar has always been a social experience, bustling with buzz, activity and a rich history. There is truly nowhere else like it!

“Amazing last night splash”

We were looking for somewhere to eat near Grand Central and were so glad to find this. We sat at the bar seating which was great, and enjoyed delicious oysters and a mouth watering lobster bouillabaisse. It's not the sort of place you stay all night, but the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was great. Really loved the lighting on the arches. Also just outside the bar is the whispering arches.

“You HAVE to go here”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

We visited here twice during our stay in NYC and the first meal was excellent, I had Lobster and my husband enjoyed a variety of Oysters and fish. The second time the food was not as good. The service was fine, but my husband ordered the Lobster and it was much smaller than the one I had been served on our previous visit and it was not nearly as fresh, but when he questioned it, he was given a replacement meal and the lobster was written off our bill, so we were happy with the end result. The atmosphere cannot be beaten, it really is an astonishing piece of architecture.

Also, just outside the restaurant there is a giant dome ceiling (whispering wall), if one person stands diagonally opposite another and whispers facing the wall it can be heard clearly (and visa versa) on the opposite side.

“I just love this place”

Located in the basement of Grand Central Station this is a fantastic and reasonably priced seafood restaurant. Romantic it isn't despite the red check tablecloths but it is large enough so you can always get in and have the choice of a wide range of seafood at reasonable, for NYC, prices.

“Reasonable prices for nice food but terrible service.”
Reviewed June 19, 2013

My mum really wanted to go to this famous bar in Grand Central Station so we went for a late-afternoon lunch. We ordered a platter that included 4 oysters and 4 clams between the two of us as I am not a big fan of seafood. The elderly waiter took our order and we waited patiently for our order. Not long after we were brought a massive platter of oysters and when checked against the menu it would have cost us four times more. I don't know whether they genuinely got the order wrong or whether they thought they would be able to tempt (trick) us into eating a more expensive meal as to be fair we were ordering a very meagre meal between the two of us. Maybe the wanted to extort more money from us, who knows. Anyhow, I alerted a different waiter to the mistake and told him our order. Within minutes a Grand Central platter was put in front of us - 8 oysters. This again was not our order and I told the man again. He responded rudely saying this is what we ordered even though I specifically told him when he took the first plate away what we ordered and what they contained. Finally we were brought our platter. The clams were... meh. The oysters were lovely though. Yet during our meal the entire waiting staff were bickering right behind us - we could not decipher whether it was about our problem or not- but it really spoiled our meal. The atmosphere was a bit pants, but maybe that was because it was 4pm and was in the middle of the main lunch and dinner times. Overall, nice oysters, terrible service. Ok prices.

“Don't bother!”
Reviewed June 19, 2013

Grand Central Station is a must stop for tourists in NYC. The restaurant there IS NOT! Oysters were not bad (would have rated "good" but too many shell bits) so if you must stop, do lunch at the counter and think of it as a worn out dive w some history.

The dining room is a joke. It was like a worn out, cheesy Myrtle Beach tourist trap. Our waiter actually left the restaurant. He opened our wine and we didn't see him again until we were exiting the place. The door standing guy (NOT a real maitre d') was there only to consume oxygen. Oily fish. Weak atmosphere. Bus station bathroom. The women's room had apparently had a gal in curlers selling mints and paper towels. WHY!?

$200+ for family and I left feeling violated. NO problem paying that for a decent meal but this place is a dump. Stick your head in and laugh/thank me. Then run away!!!!
