Description: Grand Central Oyster Bar is the ultimate experience for any seafood. Lover. From the market to your plate, we've spent nearly a hundred years perfecting our seafood dishes. Every morning, the chef goes to the New Fulton Fish Market to personally pick the day's freshest seafood. Everything from lobster to different kinds of fish is hand-picked for the best flavor and freshness. We're most famous for our oysters though, with over 30 different varieties on any given day. Have your dishes prepared minimally, or choose to have your meal in the form of a po' boy. Whatever floats your boat. To go with your Oysters, our extensive wine list has over 400 wines by the glass or bottle, 55 of which are priced under $38. We love sharing our great seafood, so we like to keep everything, including our prices, accessible. Come in for our Happy Hours (menu on website), where you and your friends can pick up some fresh food and drinks at prices so good it's fishy! Across our restaurant we have more than 450 tables across two dining rooms. Traditional experiences are supplemented by our saloon, which features a large bar. Instead, you could choose to sit at Oyster Bay, where you can watch your Oysters being shucked. The Grand Central Oyster Bar has always been a social experience, bustling with buzz, activity and a rich history. There is truly nowhere else like it!

“very special oyster bar”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

My wife and I enjoyed our first and - all too brief - visit to this unique dining establishment so much that we returned the next day for another visit. A selection of around 24 different types of oysters makes for difficult choosing. We dined under the gold vaulted ceiling adjacent to the bar, in order to gain a little piece and quiet from the actual oyster bar. The oysters were very fresh. The prices were very reasonable. The service was efficient and attentive. A good selection of wines by the glass, ( my personal preference is to pair the oysters with a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc ). They celebrate their 90th!! anniversary this year. It no wonder they have been around for sooo long. Next time I will order around a dozen different oysters, and take my sweet time savouring every sip and slurp! What a unique and truly special raw bar!

“Great oysters and a unique experience”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

The oysters are really good and they offer at least a dozen different varieties from different regions so you can sample the different types and tastes. The have a massive menu of seafood options and while its all pretty good its a little on he pricey side considering how many excellent seafood restaurants we have in NYC. I highly recommend the oysters though, they're known for good, fresh shellfish and they do it well.

The restaurant is located in the basement of Grand Central Terminal and despite the oppulence of the architecture its a very casual dining experience, simple checked tableclothes and paper menus and no fuss. They do have a decent wine list though, probably to cater to some of their more upscale guests...its not unusual to spot celebrities or famous folks there.

“Casual dining in amazing setting”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

To me an oyster bar equates with elegance, champagne and black tie (maybe it is just wishful thinking!) The Grand Central Oyster bar is a more democratic experience ... imagine crossing an Italian taverna with a seafood restaurant and you get the picture! Don't get me wrong, the food is good and the seafood range on the menu is extensive. The tables in checked plaid and terracotta floor tiling just don't give the Oyster its due! The architecture is amazing, the atmosphere bustling and loud and the waiters a little unschooled but friendly nevertheless. An enjoyable meal is pretty much assured.

“Another genuine New York treat”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

The hustle and bustle of the Grand Central Oyster Bar is not everyone's idea of a Romantic date, but for us it worked well. We were celebrating that my wife had just been interviewed successfully for a documentary movie, and I suggested oysters. People-watching being one of our key enjoyments, my wife and I got a kick out of the strange mix of Japanese tourists and locals on their lunch break congregating at the bar.
The oyster selection was great, and even for someone not so keen on the raw experience (like me) there is always the fried oyster experience. Next time I'll try the chowder that most locals were having...
