“SoHo`s homestyle kitchen”
Reviewed October 12, 2012

Since 1847. There must be a reason! Stylish bar, great kitchen. Tastes like from a grandma. Real chicken soup, fresh salads (including everything you wish your salad to include), pasta and more. Very fast and nice service!

“A little loud, but excellent food and fun atmosphere”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

The food here was excellent and reasonably priced. The place is a bit small so on a Saturday night when things get lively, the close quarters can mean that things get loud.

“Most amazing salmon sandwich ever!”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

We stopped in here one night and had some food and some cold Original Sin Cider, which was really tasty, but the highlight of the night was the salmon sandwich - it was AMAZING! A HUGE piece of salmon, cooked perfectly so it was still moist and flavoursome, with a chipotle sauce - it was seriously the best salmon sandwich I have ever eaten. I didn't want to share any with my partner, who had the chicken club sandwich and said that was great too. Next time we're in New York, we're going to return just so I can have that salmon again.

“Love the pizza”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

Fanellis is a little hole in the wall in Soho. A lot of locals go there, it
Looks like an old fashioned pub. They have one of the best pizzas, thin crusted and delicious. Burgers are great too!

“Good, but....”
Reviewed August 7, 2012

Lovely old wood, big mirrors in the bar. We were in the less characterful back room, but authentic atmosphere - great wall furniture. Small tables for two almost joined to each other, red & white oilskin check tablecoths - like an old bistro in a less salubrious quarter of Paris. Food similar to what you get in a British pub. For starters I had baked portabello mushrooms (superb) and roasted peppers (ok). Partner was very pleased with his gazpacho. We each chose a sauvignon blanc (terrible, as it turned out) as accompaniment. Main courses: he, very pleased with his quiche lorraine; I, ecstatic with my pumpkin ravioli. We were both much luckier with our red wine - a glass of malbec and rioja, respectively. Would probably have given it four stars were it not for the fact that as soon as I got home, I had to dash to the toilet (or "bathroom", as they say here. Second time this has happened in the past week here in NY and I have a robust stomach.
A note for non-US readers. The noise level in the room, with tables crammed tightly together, was horrendous. We gave up talking to each other as we couldn't make out what the other was saying. But I had no difficulty in learning about the lives of two customers - one on either side of our table and each of them, like Gladstone to Queen Victoria, addressing their companion as if they were a public meeting. If you find a restaurant practically full and with tables uncomfortably close together, continue to look for somewhere else to eat.
