“Wonderful room, even better staff”
Reviewed June 4, 2014

This new upscale hotel is in a great location…convenient to Times Square, but just far enough away from the crowds. We had a beautiful room on the 26th floor with two comfortable queen beds. This wasn’t a suite, but a huge room for NYC. So well designed…stylish contemporary with a touch of charm.

They thought of everything…a comfortable chair near the floor to ceiling windows to enjoy the view, individually controlled AC that was quiet and efficient, a variety of settings for the lighting, a large flat panel TV with dozens of high-def channels, great Wi-Fi, and plenty of counter space and storage. There were even two closets. The bathroom was just as nice with high-end fixtures and a large shower.

Almost better than the room itself was the staff. All were professional, but friendly and accommodating. For a large hotel, we felt like we weren’t just one of the many. The concierge service is in an area just off the lobby. They know everything and couldn’t have been more helpful. I don’t recall all their names, but a special thanks to Ryan F.

Often hotel websites make rooms look much better than they are. With the Hyatt Times Square, this is what you get. Highly recommended.

JEFFtravels2,

Thanks for the awesome rating and great review about our hospitality, guestroom and food & beverage amenities! We gave Ryan a pat on the back for a job well done and he said it was the "highlight of his day!"

Thanks again and hope to welcome you back to the heart of New York City!

Stayed one night at this hotel. The rooms were kind of small, but okay for NY standards. 45st street was closed that day for a festival, so valet parking was kind of a hassle. The staff was overall friendly, except for the host at bar 54. Don't get me wrong, the rooftop bar definitely has an amazing view of downtown, but first you have to suffer the interrogation from the host before getting on the outdoor patio. The patio is reserved space, so unless you reserved a table outside, they frown upon you going out there. Such a shame because you don't get the same views from inside. Being outside definitely makes the $25 cocktails go down a little easier.

The plus:

1. Fantastic location - close enough to the Times Square madness without being in the middle of it. Also loved the proximity to Broadway and restaurants.

2. Very helpful staff. Special thanks to Steve who walked to the next avenue with our seven bags in chilly weather and flagged a cab for us, as the street was temporarily close due to a fire truck. He was a trooper.

3. The rooms were all newly and tastefully renovated. (We actually chose the hyatt over the hilton because of this.)

4. The humidifier that one could get on loan on request. It had a big water tank which meant it could last the entire night.

5. Allowing us to check in early at 1pm instead of 4pm. (Thank you - we really appreciate it). We had flown a long way (24 hours) and were extremely jet lagged.

The could-be-better:

1. We are frequent business travelers and always wonder why many hotels in the US don't provide bedroom slippers as readily as Asia hotels. We were relieved to read on this thread that Hyatt Times Square could provide on request, hence we did not pack ours. Alas when we were there, the hotel had run out of them. The housekeeper was very nice to explain in a handwritten card that she wasn't able to get any, after our request for two consecutive days. Blame it on our fussy feet, but it was a small mark against our otherwise, generally positive experience.

2. There is no swimming pool (which is fine), but it also meant there was no "shared" shower facility. We had checked out at noon but our flight was not till 9pm. It meant we weren't able to take a shower before our flight. I suppose we could have asked if we were able to use the spa's shower facilities, but we decided to take our shower when we reached Germany instead.

Now the important question - will we return again? If the rates stay affordable, most certainly a resounding YES!, even if it means we have to pack our own bedroom slippers *wink*..

Floyd the front desk agent was AWESOME! We were able to check in early. We only tried this property b/c he reviews were great on bar 54- the highest bar in time square. We went there around 10:pm & stayed for 5min & left. No food no music, no atmosphere at all. Staff were friendly through- out the one night we stayed. The room service was good. Thanks Mr. Floyd.

Room Tip: High floor

Just ended my five nights stay at the Hyatt Time Square and I loved it! We had a kingsize room on 19th floor well decorated and insonorised! Fast elevators, nice concierge service, lovely portier and helpfull reception desk! Location is ideal, bed and matress were just amazing! Bathroom is huge for NY and super classy. After three stays in the city, this is defenitely my favorite hotel! (Air conditionning a bit noisy but you can switch it off for sleeping) we will stay there again for sure!

We were 3 women sharing a nice sized double queen room for 5 days of shopping and theater. Our room #2911 was modern, quiet and had an average view but we didn't spend much time there. There were 4 pillows of varying firmness on each of the comfortable beds. Beds are made with a white bottom sheet, no top sheet, just a comforter with a white cotton cover. No blankets no icky bedspread, it felt very clean.

Nice large flat screen tv. Plenty of places to plug in and charge. Media hub on desk. Although there is no free wifi in the room which was a disappointment, I think you can access it in the lobby. 2 small closets with 2 robes and slippers provided. Our bath had nice sized tub and separate walk in shower. 2 shower heads, a rainhead with great water pressure, and a hand-held shower head which didn't work very well, it kept falling out of the holder. We had plenty of counter space for all our toiletries. Blowdryer and magnifying mirrors provided along with the usual travel sized products.

What looks like a large chest of drawers is actually hiding a safe, a coffee maker (Starbucks) and an unstocked mini fridge which we liked, we put our own stuff in there purchased from a little market a couple of doors down.

Housekeeping didn't provide extra paper products, we had to call down for toilet paper and kleenex twice during our 5 night stay, but they came within minutes to bring more. Hotel staff was exceptional, extremely helpful and friendly from the doormen to the rooftop bar, they treated us like they were genuinely happy to have us there, and isn't that how it should be? The Sky Lounge had the most beautiful view, but the regular Cosmopolitan we had, while it was one of the best ever, was $23. We did not use any of the other amenities. Lobby is minimalistic with not a lot of lounging space.

You can't beat the location, half a block from the madness of Times Square, yet close to all the theaters and many restaurants. Walking distance to Rock Center, Moma, Herald Square and if you are a walker you can walk to the Met, Bloomingdales and so much more. Subway on 42nd will take you everywhere. I will stay here again and again.

Room Tip: Higher floors on the same side as the rooftop bar will have nice views.

I have no complaints, zero! My stay there was amazing. It is perfectly close, but out of Times Square. The location is ideal! It couldn't have gotten any better. Starting with check-in, the ladies at check-in were very accommodating and friendly. I forgot to get names of the staff, but I believe the lady who assisted me at front desk was named Yenny. She was wonderful! The view from the rooftop is breathtaking and the hotel restaurant is also great. The food was very good, I suggest the prix fixe meal if it is ever available. I was there two nights (Sunday May 25 & Monday May 26 late night) with a female server the first night and a male the second. Both were great. I ordered room service for Tuesday morning the night before for a friend's birthday and they came right on time with candles lit! Such a delight! The rooms are also so modern and well-decorated, beds are comfortable. As I said before, no complaints! I will definitely be back.
