Description: The Cupping Room Cafe was established in 1977. It was originally a wholesale coffee establishment. Different blends of coffee were brewed and tasted by perspective customers. This act of blending and tasting different coffees is called cupping - hence the name The Cupping Room. The coffee tasting went so well that the owners decided to change the name from The Coffee Connection to The Cupping Room Cafe. They also decided to open the back of the store and sell coffee and pie to the local artists. The building hosting The Cupping Room is a landmark building. It was the first "tall" building in SoHo and is more than 100 years old. The high tin ceilings, hard wood floors, pot-belly stove and exposed brick walls are all part of the original setting. The Cupping Room was a home for artists and locals. Today it is still a neighborhood place where you can see the locals and the famous come together in our homey environment.

I had the best omelet, it was all filling consisting of mushrooms and swiss cheese, served with a delicious salad. The atmosphere was lovely, it was a sunny day and the sun steamed in thru the windows. My friends all enjoyed their selections, but I would recommend any omelet.

We visited the Cupping Room on a Wednesday evening, luckily just in time to catch the last five minutes of Happy Hour. We were particularly drawn to this place because live music was on offer. The food was good - seafood linguine and lobster ravioli from the specials menu were both very tasty and cooked well. Choice of wines and beers was more than adequate and described well by the waiter. All food and drinks priced very reasonably The music, by the Steamboats was great - country rock at a level which made it possible to still have a conversation. Our waiter was Sammi, who may well have the most engaging smile and manner in the city! BUT what really impressed us was that when my husband discovered next morning that he had lost his phone, we rang the Cupping Room, frankly not very hopeful, to be told that Sammi had picked it up and it was being kept safely until we could arrange to pick it up. Unfortunately we were leaving NY early next morning, so arranged to pick up the phone on our way back to JFK the following Wednesday. For reasons beyond our control and entirely due to the failure of Amtrak (second time in a week) we missed our flight and had to spend an extra night in New York. Whilst being very angry at being so let down by Amtrak, costing us an unplanned night in a hotel, we were delighted to be able to go back to the Cupping Room. We were greeted like long lost friends, with hugs from Lauren, the manager, and a big smile from Sammi. We enjoyed some excellent burgers and good beer. We wanted to buy Sammi a drink, but instead of that, we were given two beers on the house. This cafe has just the warmest, friendliest atmosphere, good food and great service. Go and see for yourself!

Welcome home! We chose the restaurant by total random - went off the Subway at Canal Street (A-line) and we were "home". The place was crowded with locals on a painting-course and the athmosphere was great. We were served wonderful food by a very nice servant and are already looking forward to the return.

We visited this restaurant twice we liked it so much. The first time we went for the happy hour -- wine and appetizers were $5 each. The hummus and spinach won tons were tasty. We went back on a Friday evening and were lucky enough to arrive when a great blues group, Red Sahara played. I had a wonderful pear, walnut, blue cheese salad and my daughter had the raviolis. For dessert we had the brownie and ice cream. The brownie was dense, chocolaty and moist. The wait staff and bartender were super nice. The atmosphere is brick and antiques -- it was a great relaxing spot.

After wandering around the area for a while, we chanced upon this place. It had a certain buzz about it and felt very welcoming.
Seated, we were seen almost immediately and grabbed OJ and coffee - both very good.
Food choices were scrambled eggs and bacon for my wife, eggs Benedict with Canadian ham for me. Both were very, very good. The hollandaise was lovely and smooth. Both came with home fries, which were new to me and delicious.
Our waiter was very attentive and polite. Loved the place!
