We have dined at Eleven Madison since it originally opened in 1998 by the impressive restauranteur Danny Meyer. My most recent dinner was in April 2014 with my wife, daughter and her close friend visiting from overseas (who is also a restauranteur). In our experience, the current Eleven Madison is its third "incarnation", purchased from Meyer by Chef Humm. EMP has always been rated among the best restaurants. Yet, the owner and chef did not rest on their laurels, and reinvented the restaurant and completely changed the menu -- that's self-confidence! We concluded that the Eleven Madison Park in April gave us the best of all our dining experience here. From the menu, to the delivery, to the most important part - the food, to the attentive yet unobtrusive service, to the wine, the beer, etc., EMP was creative/innovative without being pretentious, and the food was exquisitely prepared and presented in the most appealing manner. We could tell the ingredients were fresh and of very high standards. The menu offered us 4 different "themes" (my choice of word), Cherry, Strawberry, Celery, Coffee, to choose from and since there were four of us, we chose different ones, not knowing what each really meant -- and yes, the anticipation of where EMP's creativity was going to take us in the next course was enjoyable. I won't go into details here (because the menu changes, we were told) but the idea is that all four of us had a slightly different foods, prepared differently based on these "themes". The "themes" were not gimmicky because as the dinner progressed, we could see the coherency in each of our dishes. Eleven Madison Park has another advantage over many restaurants: the beautiful spacious 35-foot ceiling on the ground floor of the old MetLife Building. The wine selection was excellent and I thought was fairly priced for a top-rated restaurant. The beer selections were so interesting that I ordered one anyway. At the end of the evening, we were invited to a kitchen tour and offered freshly crushed ice soaked in natural juice/syrup of our choosing. We all concluded that the evening was special and memorable -- we could not think of anything we didn't enjoy. The multi-course dinner provided us just the right amount of food. We have recommended EMP to our friends and they loved it, too.
