I loved the experience of dining at this restaurant. Everything is delicious, but the best part of it all is the inventiveness. There is an ever present nod to the history of New York City woven into the experience that is hard to describe, but really charming. The service was beyond good--it is welcoming from the moment you walk in the door until you finish your last course. Of course, as is the case with most of the popular restaurants in NYC, you really need to plan ahead to secure a reservation, but it is well worth it.

My daughter and I visited this restaurant to sample the tasting menu for lunch based on reviews on trip advisor. What a find ...it was absolutely superb. We loved it so much we went back again for lunch the following day. Every course was fabulous. The service was exceptional. The red wine was reasonably priced and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed the cocktails. Has to be one of the best meals we have had the privilege to be served.

I was a little concerned about the cost of this restaurant, but after experiencing it, you are not paying for the food, but more for the experience and the presentation of it all. It's about a 2 1/2 - 3 hour experience once it's all said and done. I equate this experience to the cost of a Broadway play, but with food included. I'm not trying to down play the delicious food that you will receive, but if you are trying to justify the cost, it's best to think of it as a Broadway theater experience. Because that's about what you might pay for front row seats to see an A-list performer in a top billing Broadway play. Only difference here is that the food is the main attraction and the wait staff is the supporting cast. If you are a foodie and looking for a unique NYC food experience, this is the place to be. (Only if you are lucky enough to score one of the 50 coveted lunch time seats or one of the approx. 100 dinner time seats)

EMP is not the place you recommend to just anyone. It is for the food obsessed only. If your hit list includes Noma, per se, Masa, Alinea, Metawood, Urasawa than you don't need to be told to add this place to your list. If these are not the places you consider food elite DO NOT go to EMP.

EMP is subtle, playful, elegant executed to flawless perfection but it is NOT for everyone nor is it meant to be. It is the singular vision of Daniel Humm presented with our apology or explanation. For me it is at or near the very top.

I'm a crazy foody and wine lover. The trip to Eleven Madison should have been a fantastic experience, but it turned out to be a basic dinner with a lot of fuss around it...

Air conditionning
I was in a three-piece suit and was still frozen by the AC... It seems that they are aware of the problem as when we complaind they offered a shawl to my wife... By the end of the dinner four out of five girls in the restaurant had one...

Food
Well, there is a story with every course, but too much storytelling kills the story. And you can spin whatever yarn you like, but a Waldorf salad is still a Waldorf salad...
There is nothing that stood out. The duck was perfectly cooked but with too much spice to be able to appreciate the taste of the meat. The idea of serving home-made sodas gave the impression of being at a place that had just discovered the soda stream.
