“A dark mystery”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

It is a dark mystery why Eleven Madison has received 3 stars from Michelin. We live in from Europe and we know most of the 3 star Michelin restaurants in Germany, France, Italy and Switzerland plus some of the US and New York City. It is not the question whether this restaurant deserves 3 stars or 2 but whether 3 or zero.

You get one single menu with 15 courses and you cannot choose, ok. But every course was either too salty, too sour or very bizarre. It happened the first time in a restaurant with Michelin stars that there were courses we simply could not eat because of their taste. Some strange sort of a salty mayonnaise in an ostrich egg, e.g. Other courses are more the sort of a bad joke, a revenge of the cook for causing him work? A cracker, dot. Or to grind carrots at the table for a carrot only salad and give the guest some spices to mix all himself. Or to put milk, chocolate and olive oil in a glass and shake it for a strange drink. Or serve cheese with beer. After a certain time we were afraid of what will come next.

The restaurant itself is a cold uncomfortable hall with a very windy air-condition. The service was a kind of a gastronomical version of Chaplin’s Modern Times. A very big staff serves the dishes in record time. Industrialized, to get rid of the guest as quick as possible ? At least we felt so.

Simply don’t go there.

I must admit we arrived really jet lagged and was not focus on a couple of the dishes towards the end of the dinner but it was a great experience. The reception was excellent, very professional and warm, everyone from the waiters to the manager to the chefs were great communicators of what they are about. Some dishes we liked more than others but it is an experience worth having just seating back and enjoying the whole theatric performance of a well oiled machine as it should be for this prized restaurant. The timing was excellent, service very attentive & the magic tricks were simply fun!

Eleven Madison Park… What an experience! Yes it is expensive however sometimes a good meal out is as good as a holiday! We were so impressed with our degustation. The meals were delicious, varied in meats and produce, was fresh and local and the staff were interactive and carefully explained each course without being intrusive. I was sceptical before we went because of the price however it is truly worth it and is such a great thing to do with someone special. Highly recommend.

“Best dining experience ever!”
Reviewed September 29, 2013 via mobile

Eleven Madison pretty much blew all my expectations. We were on honeymoon and they could not have fussed over us any more. After a rocky arrival in the city, they 100% turned our day around and all was forgotten by the end of the evening. We were greeted immediately and escorted to the bar. All (5 or 6) staff that dealt with us addressed us by name, knew we were newlyweds and made sure we were happy - but by no means were they intrusive. We did the 4 course taster menu accompanied with wine, which I highly recommend - pricey, but worth every penny! It was culinary heaven and we were served complimentary appetizers in between each course, all of which were delicious. We were stuffed by the end. The staff were so attentive and the sous chef even brought out one of the courses and spoke with us. We loved the atmosphere, extremely rich and professional yet unpretentious service and standards and the warmth of the staff. And the food - well I can honestly say it was fit for a king! I couldn't fault a thing. Would re-visit in a heartbeat.
