“Every ounce of the meat is worthwhile the price...”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

We returned again to one of our favourite steak houses in New York. Excellent steak, lovely Caesar salad and fries, great wine. Staff OK, perhaps a bit reserved. I tipped them "only" 10% and they sort of looked a bit...... Nice chat with the Portugese guy at the reception.

“Wayyyyy too expensive!”
Reviewed January 25, 2013

45$ for a steak? And not that great a steak, if you want french fries, you have to pay $10 more... And that's only for fries... I've eaten far more better steak at less than half the price...

“Large portions, succulent steak cooked to perfection, delicious food with excellent service to all!”
Reviewed January 22, 2013

After seeing Jersey Boys we didn't think the evening could get any better...we were so wrong! We spotted Gallagher's across the show entrance and luckily they were open for another 45 minutes...a perfect succulent ribeye, broccoli, sautéed spinach and mushrooms with excellent service! The steak was juicy, tasty and cooked perfectly. The smell of a delicious steak announces how great it will taste and it was soooo scrumptious! We had tried Peter Lugers and were sorely disappointed. There we were treated disrespectfully and the food was overpriced and not half as tasty. We had seen Gallagher's on the food channel too and were fortunate to have found them. The food, prices and service were excellent, plus the cordial respectful treatment to everyone makes you feel so special. What a wonderful find for us, just tourists from Hawaii...lucky New Yorkers! We will always look forward to going to NYC & Gallagher's!

“Very good old time steakhouse”
Reviewed January 22, 2013

We recently dined at Gallagher's after attending a show and found it to be very good. We walked in, without a reservation, shortly after 5:00 pm on a Saturday night and were seated right away. There's nothing fancy about the dining room because this is a true to name authentic steakhouse, which is why their motto is "They come for the steak". As soon as you walk in you can see the cooler loaded with prime dry aged beef.

The filet mignon (14 oz) was cooked to order, medium rare, but did have some fatty protions. The 10 oz was a much better cut. The broccoli was cooked perfectly and the sauteed mushrooms were very good. The apple pie was good as was the cheesecake. All in all a very good meal but beware, you will pay for a good meal. With drinks and dessert you're looking at right around $200 without tip.

The atmosphere here is that of a typical steakhouse, loud, little decor, and waiters not looking to socialize..... but that's all part of the experience. It only bothers those who don't regularly dine at these types of steak houses.

For a truly fine steak, cooked the way you ordered it I would highly recommend Gallagher's. I only wish they'd bring back the porter house.

“Birthday meal ruined by rude waiter”
Reviewed January 21, 2013

Me and my family came here for my 21st birthday meal. We were over in new york for my birthday and only there for 5 days, we were told to try gallaghers so thought we'd try it. The service throughout was good, although my dad and brother had to ask twice for their drinks at one point. The food was nice, being vegetarian I had the vegetarian platter and my dad and brother had steaks. The food was good and they brought a cake out for my birthday which we thought was nice. It was the attitude of the waiter that ruined our entire meal. He counted our money for the bill out infront of us telling us we had underpaid him when he had counted a $50 as a £20. He then claimed we hadn't tipped enough and even said "10%, better than nothing." We thought this was embarssing on his behalf and will not be returning. We tipped him a fair amount and considering they forgot to bring our drinks out should of been grateful. Will be telling people not to waste their money.
