Description: Hi-Life Bar & Grill is one of the Upper Westside’s most popular and longstanding neighborhood restaurants (est. 1991). Hi-Life's 1930's decor is the backdrop for bar & grill classics like flame-grilled steaks and hamburgers, broiled and seared fresh fish specials, bountiful "Big Bowls" of pasta and entree salads, and last but not least a Sushi/Raw bar. (Hi-Life was the first NYC restaurant to install a traditional sushi bar in a non-Japanese restaurant setting in 1993. Expertly prepared sushi & sashimi at Hi-Life is a natural extension of the classic Raw Bar one might expect in our 1930's environment.) Hi-Life also serves a "traditional Westside" brunch that features fresh squeezed juices, complimentary blueberry muffins & cinnamon toast as well as a 2.95 brunch cocktail deal. In the warmer months Hi-Life outdoor seating includes 28 seats along Amsterdam Ave and another 18 seats on our 83rd St side.

The food is fantastic and really nice atmosphere, most of the people there are locals and not tourists. It's a place to eat but our waitress could have smiled a bit more. Excellent value for money

From the outside, the place looks a bit dumpy, somewhat like the old sports bars that used to be all over the UWS.
We chanced it anyway, mainly to get out of the cold.
And from the inside, the place looks a bit dumpy, somewhat like the old etc.
However, the menu is quite eclectic, ranging from steaks, chops and pot pie to sushi, dumplings and Pad Thai.
And the food was actually quite good. My husband's steak arrived black and blue, as he had ordered, and the Thai dish I had was nicely done.
Service was low key pleasant.
We will go back next time we're in the City.

We visited this place after a walk up and down Amsterdam. The lamb chops were the best we had tasted in a while. Not too expensive either .

We happened to stop here on the way back to our apartment and we so glad we did. They had the sushi half price and everyone was eating it. One of the people with us is a Sushi lover and said it was excellent. The service was very good and the shrimp dumplings I had were scrumptious. Good food, good price and nice crowd. Highly recommended.

Fell on this place by accident on our first afternoon in NYC and was pleasantly surprised.

We were early for dinner (having flown in from the UK) so took advantage of their early bird offers on burgers and pasta which were not only good value but very good quality, freshly prepared and absolutely delicious

If we were staying longer, then we'd certainly come back. 10/10
