We has a group of 13 in post matinee for a 6:00 pm reservation. There was a partyahead of us with the only large table. Right away our waiter explained they were running behind as those customers arrived a half hour later than their reservation. He invited us to the bar area and provided a free round of drinks for all due to the fact that we had to wait for our table. Once seated, fresh bread and salad, served family style, was provided for all. We had a sampling of all entrees. Everyone enjoyed their meals...they also arrived at the table together, hot and ready to eat. Never easy with a large party! It was my husband's birthday and we had a nice desserts and singing to end the evening. The staff was great! Thanks for a wonderful time!

What a wonderful place.
Stumbled across this little gem for my birthday dinner on St Valentines Day.
It was our last night in NY and I am kicking myself we had not found the Hourglass earlier in our visit.
We were luck to get a table since we did not have reservations put the staff happily seated us and provided wonderful service.
The door man was a brilliant character, the waitresses warm and friendly and everyone sung me happy birthday.
The food is incredible, not expensive, the cocktails just right, the atmosphere perfect and the decor sympathetic to the Taverns history.

The Hourglass Tavern is amidst Hell's Kitchen restaurant row. So charming! A very very old building with 3 levels. Small bar restaurant on first floor, Th Bettibar on the second floor and the restaurant on the 3rd floor. You can eat on all three levels. We were lucky enough to snag a table on the second floor squished in between some fabulous theater workers that were between matinne and evening shows. The biggest word is friendly. The food a B, but the rest ofthe charm made it an A+

Wondering the streets around Time Square looking for a "Good Spot". We are from Philly and sometimes spoiled by our resturants. So we reviewed everyone's menu, we had time. On the following block we came upon a gold mine! The Hourglass Tavern! We instently knew it was for us just by looking into the first dining room. The menu had something for each of us. Boy was this a FIND! The food was great, intimate yet friendly beyond belief. When the proprietor Beth Sheinis came to greet us, we were pleasently suprised at the history of the decor as well as the entire building. You will have to stop to hear the story yourself! Its was a real treat.

Actually, went to this unique restaurant based on the reviews on trip advisor. I found the reviews to be extremely accurate. The service was perfect. The "big burger" was DELICIOUS. It was served with salad on the burger and homemade mashed potatoes. There are actual timeglasses on the walls. It was explained that years ago...when you were seated they turned the hourglass and when it was up...it was time for you to go. Now, they are just interesting to the name and decor. However, they can still be inverted and they work. This is a perfect place to go anytime. Most restaurants on Restaurant Row are super busy and lack the wonderful personalized treatment that you get here. The prices are perfect...unlike the other places in the area. There are 3 floors...small and quaint. When we arrived we were the only customers and we had reservations. By the time we left, every table was taken. Suggest reservations. Will definitely return and recommend to friends. 373 W 46 th street between 8th and 9th. Bravo!
