I have been meaning to go here for several years and finally did last night. I never should have waited so long. The whole experience was superlative from the service to the decor and the meal was French at its very best. The preparation was creative with a bit of fusion here and there but classically French. The presentation was also perfect. I had the smoked salmon appetizer on a potato gallette with arctic char as the main. The char was superb with pureed spinach and holandaise sauce on the side with a few dollops of char roe. My friend had the duck parpadelle for an appetizer and the duck with cherry sauce for the main. We tasted each other's dishes.
The dining room is elegant and bright. We sat in the window on Broadway.
For a meal of this quality we couldn't believe that the 3 course dinner was only $44. For this level of French cuisine one would easily pay twice as much or more in NYC. We also went with the wine pairing. The 3 selections were perfect matches for each course. I can't wait to return.

Ive been here many times now and have never been disappointed. Sometimes their wine pairings are unusual, as I'm trained to diploma standard, but I actually quite like that...... trying a wine I would never choose with a dish is a good challenge for me to not always stick to what will work.
This week we had smoked salmon Rosti, asparagus and egg followed by attic char and sea bass. Perfect, delicate, light and a wonderful meal for superb value. If you haven't been here yet you must go to see what you're missing!

Your expectation when eating at L'Ecole is that there may be certain things that are less than perfect as the people working there are supposed to be in training.

If only other restaurants could train their staff so well.

The food is remarkably good and is equivalent to what you would expect to eat at a Michelin Star restaurant.

The service is first rate.

Definitely worth a visit!

We came on a saturday night early, our waiter was nice, but he would not smile, very efficient but not warm. The food was good and it could have been excellent, but the stuffiness made it impossible to have fun.

This is one of the great restaurants of New York, and worth making a reservation for anytime you're in the city. It's the only real restaurant on this part of the Broadway, and it's a lovely spot for a quiet lunch in the middle of the hustle bustle. Service and food are always top-notch. Despite it being a student-run restaurant, the prices aren't necessarily cheap; but the value is very good.
