The first time I saw this place is wasn't sure about it but a friend recommended it and we gave it a try. It is small and not one of those hip upscale restaurants. The selection is small but everything is wonderful. We missed the owner this time in and I was disappointed. Not with the service or the food but simply because I enjoyed his company last year. Several bottles of fine wine and great conversation also didn't hurt. Things that stood out on the menu were the grilled Calamari, the Cheese Ravioli in a blush sauce, Veal Meatballs and Spinach Gnocchi. All in all, a very pleasant dinner in a warm comfortable seting.

We discovered this place one rainy night last year when we were looking for an after theater snack (performance at (Westbeth) and were happily surprised. Went again with friends for a full dinner on New Years Eve and were not disappointed. Food was well prepared and staff is very amiable Good neighborhood go to..

We go to Malatesta a couple of times per year (we don't live in the City), and we are never disappointed. It doesn't matter if it's on a holiday, or any other day of the year, the food is always amazing.
It's true Northern Italian, so if you are looking for heavy Sicilian super sized portion, this is not the place for you. But if you like subtle and delicate tastes, fresh ingredients and a true Italian atmosphere (and language), then you have it.
A little bit expensive, but maybe not so much for NYC.

Went with a group of 5. Good house wines. Good Piadinas, very authentic..I guess the spinach Gnocchi was just average, I went by the reviews from fellow yelpers but was a bit disappointed. The pastas (special of the day) were however quite good.

We found this place via google and read great reviews. There was a que and it was busy but went down really fast. My boyfriend had the steak and we shared a couple of the pasta dishes. Everything was so good that we just had to have dessert! Very cute place and great food, a cosy night for couples. Meal was excellent value too, in all i think it came to 85.
