We were close after a very long day of walking Manhattan and a walking tour of Greenwich Village. Our guide had pointed out some pizza joints but we had something more substantial in mind. So upon reading some tripadvisor ratings on restaurants that were close, we decided on Monte's. We were not let down....our meal was incredible. It was very early, about 4:30, and we had not eaten since breakfast, and when we were seated the only ones eating were the staff. Nonetheless our service was great and the food was in a class by itself. I have eaten at Il Mulino before and this is better and cheaper. Authentic Italian served by and Italian speaking staff in an interesting neighborhood...we will be back, because there were more items on the menu I want to taste.
