“Delicious, noisey.”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

The food and service were wonderful. But, it was very noisey and overcrowded. Being a Saturday night, we expected the noise but, it seemed that extra tables were crammed in.

“BR Guest Restaurants "NO"”
Reviewed January 12, 2013

Life is filled with “6 degrees of separation”. Last evening we were going to the theater on the upper West side and my wife chose the Ocean Grill for dinner since it was in the neighborhood. It has been many years since we've been there and we were looking forward to a lovely seafood dinner. The restaurant remains very attractive and the service was outstanding. Unfortunately the food was very disappointing. My wife had simply grilled Branzini which was mushy,I had a 2 lb. broiled lobster which was overcooked and tasteless. It is difficult to imagine how a seafood restaurant cannot produce simple seafood of high quality. When we received the check the waitress told us that the owners of this restaurant having many other restaurants and gave us a list. Therein was the reason for the poor quality of food. This was a BR Guest restaurant. The evening before we had been to the Strip House restaurant on W. 44th St another BR Guest restaurant. I had written a review for trip advisor recommending not to eat there and here I was once again at a disappointing restaurant owned by the same owners.

“Best California Rolls EVER”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

The seating area seemed somewhat small because we were cramped in a corner. The waitress was on point with service so we tipped her well. We ordered the California rolls, Shrimp dumplings, Crab cake, and grilled Sea scallops with jumbo shrimp. We would recommend all the dishes mentioned because they were each phenomenal. We celebrated my birthday here and were given a complimentary Eggnog Creme Brulee that had the perfect caramelized top. Not a large selection of the beers and the passion fruit Cosmopolitan is recommended.

“A slow slide downhill”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

My mother and I have been regulars at the Ocean Grill since we moved to the Upper West Side six years ago. We used to love going for Sunday brunch or a cosy dinner in Winter. The food is consistently excellent, but the service has deteriorated so much that our dinner there last week could have been our last. We were greeted my a hostess whose hair was so long and unkempt that we wondered what she does when she goes to the toilet. Not to be disgusting, but this was really unpleasant and only makes you think that some of it must be ending up in the food as she walks through the restaurant and into the kitchen. Why don't they make her tie it in a bun, or at least a ponytail? Next, we watched as other tables were served around us, but no-one even approached us with a menu for 20 minutes. We had to wave frantically and almost yell to get the attention of a waiter, who took our order for drinks, but turned out not to be our actual server. When our server showed up, we were told that there were champagne cocktails as part of the special that night, but as we'd already ordered our drinks, it was a bit late to find out about this. We ordered our food, had a delicious meal, and then waited 15 minutes to be asked if we wanted anything else. We finally managed to get the maitre d' to bring us our bill, at which point we discovered we should have been given an amuse bouche - it was on the bill, with a $0.00 charge, but we'd never received it!
This restaurant used to be so great, but excellent food has to be complimented by excellent service and wait staff who don't make you think their hair is going to end up in your food. The Upper West Side has a wide range of wonderful restaurants, so who knows how much longer Ocean Grill will be able to withstand the competition if the service doesn't improve.

“Ocean Grill Dinner New York”
Reviewed December 20, 2012

The food was GREAT and our server was simply outstanding! The Columbus Ave location was easy to find and conviienient to our hotel. We each had an entree and desert. My salmon was done to perfection and the manager assured our entire dinner was to our satisfaction. The entire expierence was simply amazing.
