We visited Paty's recently. They are a great family spot, able to accommodate larger groups (we had 8, another party had 21!) and while not too loud, loud enough that kids are not going to bother anyone. But don't go here for a quiet night out.
Both the pizza and salad were really good. Best pizza in NY? I won't go that far- it was really good but not better than many pizzas I have had in NY or elsewhere. But they had a good selection of the classic NY pizza joint staples like pizza (of course), calzone, and salads. They also had more than just the old school Italian salad which was a nice surprise.
The chocies of wines by the glass was pretty limited. In 1980 this might have been fine but today we know wines from all around the world can be easily had so it would be good to have more than just 'house' reds (3-4) and whites. This wouldn't ruin the evening for most people but it is an area where things could be better.
Service is definitely the weak point. They forgot about a party of 20 and had to move us after we were seated and settled. That apparently pressed the reset button for the waitress and she disappeared as if we needed to start our review of the menu all over again. She remained elusive all evening right up through sending out a search party to get the check.
