“Great place to eat for Seinfeld fans”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 12, 2013

Before touring the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, a volunteer at the cathedral recommended going to Tom's Restaurant, which is just up a block from the cathedral. It was an unexpected part of my day since I did not know the restaurant whose exterior was shown on Seinfeld many times was in this neighborhood. The food and service were very good. Our server was a very nice woman from Poland. She talked about her experiences living and working in New York City. She was very pleasant to talk to and made the experience at Tom's that much more enjoyable. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant if you are in the area looking for a place to eat and especially if you are a Seinfeld fan.

“Good food, good prices, good service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2013

Known as the Seinfeld Diner, the menu is careful to point out that is not what the owners wish to be known for. It is what it is, a diner, with quick service, decent food and reasonable prices. The menu is extensive and they have breakfast available later into the day (maybe all day?). Our food was prepared well and tasted good, although they did forget one item on our order. They were happy to make sure it was not on our bill. There was a line, but it moved pretty quickly.

“Cheap prices, good food, friendly staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2013

Tourists like to visit Tom's because it is the "Seinfeld Diner". Locals visit Tom's because it is cheap and good. I like Tom's because the owner is an honest guy. He could jack up the prices and make a killing off of the tourists, but he doesn't. Where else in NYC can you get a great dinner of salad, soup, two giant stuffed green peppers, a mountain of mashed potatoes with gravy, a vegetable medley, and a drink for under $10???? Their milkshakes are awesome, by the way.

Their breakfast is also good. Most breakfasts come with your choice of juice and a coffee and the portions are big. They only accept cash, but they have an ATM that charges a really modest fee of $1.95 which is nothing compared to most foreign bank atms. However, there is also a Bank of America, a Sovereign bank, and a Chase bank close by if you bank at one of those and don't want to pay a fee.

The staff have always been friendly when I've visited which, on top of the great prices and good food, always makes me return.

“Popular but just ok”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2013

This is a popular spot for tourists because it was on the Seinfeld sitcom but the food is just ok. The prices are reasonable but the try and cook things so fast that they actually ruin the meal.

I ordered eggs over medium and double checked the waitress had written it down correctly. When the eggs arrived they were brown on the outside and done over easy on the inside which means the grill was too hot and I confirmed this with a restaurant owner. The toast arrived a few minutes earlier than the eggs. They cooked the sausage links by deep frying them.

This is not my favorite spot in New York City, just convenient.

“Good food, great value, nice staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2013

We ate hear as my husband is a fan of Seinfeld, and apparently the exterior of this diner was used in the show. We traveled from Midtown Manhattan to have breakfast at Tom's on the upper west side. We immediately fell in love with the neighborhood. The sidwalks were wide and uncrowded, and there was an unpretncious class to the area. The food was great, the coffee was excellent, and the value was good, too. We would definitely eat here again and highly recommend this little hole in the wall to all. FYI, it is a "cash only" establishment.
