Description: This Old Chelsea food hall is a New York original. The Red Cat's combination of come-as-you-are sensibilities and straightforward, satisfying, and occasionally irreverent cuisine instantly establish the restaurant as a favorite with New York diners. As Frank Bruni wrote in the New York Times, "The Red Cat feels vaguely colonial and tavern like, except when it feels downtown-gallery cool, and apart from those moments when it feels modestly and eclectically elegant." Went prior to seeing a show in the area, and they were able to get us served and out on time! Good food at reasonable prices.

Would have given five stars, but the noise level was a bit much. We had early reservations and were seated immediately upon arrival. We were visiting from out of town and the server kept her distance and let us catch up. Ordered drinks and entrees with sides. Started with salad, corn bread and arugula salad and cauliflower soup. Both were well prepared and well seasoned. Our guest ordered the grilled pork chop and we had fish, skate (me) and grouper (wife). The pork chop was huge and perfectly grilled to her satisfaction. The grouper was excellent and my skate wings were very good. We also had the polenta and and fries as sides. The polenta was served in a cast iron pan with marinara. Very, very good.... Ordered a pistachio semifreddo, it looked good but wasn't blown away. Over all a very good meal, worth the cost..

Great welcome at the door and reassured there would be something tasty for a gluten-free person to eat but choice was rather limited.

Warm atmosphere. Great service. Knowledgeable staff. Reasonable prices. The pork chop marinaded in coffee, chocolate and brown sugar is the best I have ever eaten. EVER. Highly recommend this neighborhood gem. You may even see celebrities.

We can only assume that the kitchen was having an off night or something (it was Columbus day), because what we ate here ranged from bland to offensive. Gave up giving feedback to our server as everything was so bad and it's not like she could really do anything for us. Went here on the back of so many positive reviews but we can only recommend the trendy bar set up, the wine list and the cleanliness of the restrooms.
