Description: America's first fine dining restaurant, Delmonico's has been serving fine American food to New York's connoisseurs in its premier location at the heart of Manhattan's financial district. Since opening at 56 Beaver Street in 1837, Delmonico's has been renowned as the birthplace of the Delmonico Steak, Delmonico Potatoes, Eggs Benedict, Lobster Newburg, and Baked Alaska. Upon opening, the original Delmonico's offered then-unheard of luxuries such as private dining rooms, an extensive wine cellar, innovative cuisine, and, above all, warm, personal service. Today, the restaurant continues to honour its heritage with the same warm hospitality and fine cuisine. Delmonico's menu features a range of traditional dishes in addition to the prime Delmonico Steak, aged to perfection in the aging room. Having introduced many dishes and dining customs to America, to dine at Delmonico's is to experience history.

Did you know that the original chef at this restaurant (back in the 1800's) invented Eggs Benny, baked Alaska, and of course, the Delmonico Steak. For any student of culinary history, this is a pretty significant stop. Our food was wonderful, and the service outstanding. I happened to not like the cauliflower I ordered as a side, and they whisked it away, didn't charge us and even gave my husband a 2nd glass of wine, no charge for the trouble. Top notch!

It is a beautiful old building. While sitting there with friends I could only imagine all that had taken place in this building through the years. Our meals were perfect and the service what you would expect in an upscale restaurant. If you want to treat yourself or visiting New York like we were, don't miss this chance to indulge.

Had a wonderful meal with 2 other couples. The ambiance, service and food was exceptional. The cocktail lounge on a Saturday night was not crowded. Consider coming early and having a cocktail in the bar. The dark paneling, booths and excellent mixed drinks will start your evening off to a great start. For dinner we had a variety of beef cuts including the signature Delmonico porterhouse as well as one order of Lobster Newburg. The Classic Delmonico potatoes, creamed spinach and bacon roasted brussel sprout sides were all top shelf as well. The food and table service was outstanding. Our waiter Frank was an experienced professional. He anticipated our needs and was immediately available for any requests or questions we had. Bring your wallet, Delmonico's prices are on a par with all the other great NY City steak houses, but well worth the splurge.

This was my second visit to Delmonico's. There were six in our group for a birthday dinner. The restaurant is very attractive (if a bit noisy) and worth a visit for the history alone. The food was very good and the service was also good. The steaks (porterhouse and the Delmonico's ribeye) were good, but not quite as good as steaks I have had in some of the other excellent steakhouses in NY. With so many other options available for steak (Wolfgang's, Keen's, The Old Homestead, and Frankie and Johnnie's to name a few), I would recommend Delmonico's for the experience and history but one of the others if you are just looking for a great steak.
